Clash: Westway To The World Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Best Rockumentary... As a devoted Clash fan, this is as complete as it gets. Very informational. It gets deep toward the end as Joe, Mick and Topper talk about their regrets. Not to give too much away, but it is clear that when it came down to it, these guys were a tight brotherhood. This is a solid document and captures the essence of The Clash. Submitted by yo-harris (South Bend, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
The Truth About The Clash I have never been more floored by a band telling their own story than this! I own "The Filth and the Fury" DVD (Sex Pistols) and am eagerly awaiting the relase of the "End Of The Century" DVD (Ramones; which I went to the Tribeca Film Festival to see), but this one is the undisputed champion. This is the true story, folks, from the horse's mouth. Hearing the sincerity and humor of the band makes this so real. You can fully understand their passion and really see why they were what they were. I must watch this once a month (at least) with no stop in sight! The Clash are truly one of the most underrated rock bands of all time. No one had the fire like them then, and no one does now. Long live the spirit of The Clash! Rest In Peace, Joe Strummer (1952-2002) Submitted by a reviewer (Lakewood, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Clash: Westway To The World film
$14.49 Lyrics translated from the Spanish by Guillermo Hernandaz, Yolanda Zepeda and Jaime Nicolopulos.
Following on from his father Santiago Jimenez' own successful run as a conjunto musician in San Antonio, Flaco Jimenez put together a conjunto of his own in the '50s, eventually becoming one of the most famous figures in Tex-Mex music (also known as Musica Nortena in Mexico). Based on the polkas and waltzes Mexican performers refashioned as rancheras, the Tex-Mex conjunto style features accordion, the 12-string bajo sexto guitar, bass, and drums. Flaco immediately staked his claim in the music with a distinctly imaginative and lively accordion style, finding the ideal backing from equally able Tejano musicians, including his father and his son David. For this excellent 1985 recording, Flaco teams up with noted bandleader and bajo player Toby Torres, bassist Henry "Big Red" Ojeda, and drummer Isaac Garcia. The group works through a variety of song forms, including rancheras, boleros, danzons, and polkas. Along with a fine rendition of the ubiquitous "El Barrilito" ("Beer Barrel Polka"), other highlights include a version of Jimenez Sr.'s "Ay Te Dejo en San Antonio," the sensuous danzon instrumental "Juarez," and the Toby Torres vocal feature "Un Viejo Amor." Throughout, Flaco's playing comes off as both astonishing and very enjoyable, especially on the live recording "Traigo un Recuerdo." With ...

If punk rejected pop history, LONDON CALLING reclaimed it, albeit with a knowing perspective. The scope of this double set is breathtaking, encompassing reggae, rockabilly, and the group's own furious mettle. Such a combination might seem over-ambitious, but the Clash accomplish it with swaggering panache. Guy Stevens, who produced the group's first demos, returns to the helm to provide a confident, cohesive sound equal to the set's brilliant array of material. Boldly assertive and superbly focused, London Calling contains many of the quartet's finest songs and is, by extension, virtually faultless.

| | Walker Brothers Ultimate Collection CD (2008)
Clash: Westway To The World movie DVD
$15.39 This two-CD compilation, assembled from the Walker Brothers' three albums and various singles released by Philips between 1965 and 1967, gives a good overview of their U.K. history without limiting itself to their hits. The sound quality is good if not exceptional -- one gets the sense that another round of remastering would be in order (and while we're talking about sound, wouldn't one like to see a Mobile Fidelity reissue on the Walker Brothers or, for that matter, Scott Walker's best solo stuff?). And the track order isn't chronological -- their two best-known songs, which were not their first two U.K. singles -- occupy the opening two slots on disc one. So this set is lacking in some attributes that one would, ideally, like to se. On the other hand, all of the songs that one would like to see are here somewhere, and the annotation is thorough if not extensive. For anyone starting a collection of the classic Walker Brothers' material, this set -- which also carries the subtitle "My Ship Is Coming In" -- is a great place to start and finish, assuming that one doesn't wish to own everything that they did during their British period. ~ Bruce Eder
