| | One Night At Mccool's DVD (2001) Widescreen
Dakota movie DVD
$16.89 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played by Michael Douglas in an outré toupee. His story of how Jewel led him to ruin, filmed in a stylized flashback bathed in blue, is mirrored by Carl talking to his therapist--played with a delicious verve by Reba McEntire, ...

| | Angel On The Right DVD (2002)
Dakota movie DVD
$17.89 A movie from Tajikistan director Jamshed Usmonov, ANGEL ON THE RIGHT follows the fortunes of Hamro (Maruf Pulodzoda) as he returns to his native country after 10 years spent living in Moscow. Having languished in a Russian jail for most of the time, the former criminal hopes to return to Tajikistan to help his ailing mother who is close to death. Unfortunately he receives a rather rude awakening when he discovers that the criminal underclass lurking in his home town hasn't forgotten about the sizeable debts Hamro owes them, so he attempts to sell his mother's house before landing in more hot water. He also discovers that he has a 10-year-old son, tries to woo his mother's nurse, and avoids the local Mafiosos at all costs. Usmonov steers his cast through some darkly comic material as the plot unfolds, with the movie providing an invaluable object lesson in how not to live your life, as well as plenty of laughs along the way.
10 years after leaving Tajikistan, the Moscow-based gangster Hamro is tricked into returning to his home village, where he must confront old foes, debts, his tradition ...

| | Down In The Valley DVD (2006) Widescreen; Subtitled
Dakota review
$7.09 Director David Jacobsen's DOWN IN THE VALLEY plays like a romantic, operatic lament for the disappearing cinematic and real-life icon: the American cowboy. Many of the elements that would fuse, say, a classic John Wayne character are present in Edward Norton's (PRIMAL FEAR, 25TH HOUR) character, Harlan Fairfax Caruthers: he's polite, soft-spoken, yet stubbornly brave and handy with Colt steel and lead. While at home in Death Valley in the mid 1800s, these characteristics are positively anachronistic in modern-day San Fernando Valley. How else to explain the reaction of a gaggle of giggling teenagers to Harlan as he pumps their gas? One of the teens, Tope (Evan Rachel Wood), is immediately attracted to these charms and invites Harlan along to the beach. A whirlwind romance follows, much to the chagrin of Tope's (short for October) father, Wade (David Morse), who senses there is more to Harlan than meets the eye. Indeed, things begin to unravel when Harlan lies about "borrowing" a horse from a local rancher that leads to a threat at gunpoint. To make matters worse, Harlan ingratiates himself more ...
