Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1990, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
2002 24-bit remastered reissue of the country-soul artist's 1988 compilation features digipak.
Okay, he's not as transcendent as his labelmate Otis Redding, but who was, or is? At his best, in other words on most of the songs here, Bell was close enough that anybody who cares for '60s Southern soul should own this album.
High points here include an achingly lovely cover of Calvin Carter's then decade-old "Lonely Soldier," a song whose poignancy took on new meaning in 1969 as the war in Vietnam raged. In addition, "A Smile Can't Hide (A Broken Heart)," is a big-sounding soul ballad decorated with particularly intense dual guitar leads by the great Steve Cropper.
2002 24-bit remastered reissue of the country-soul artist's 1988 compilation. Stax. Digipak.
Includes original liner notes by Lee Hildebrand.
Producers: Booker T. Jones, William Bell, Al Bell, Isaac Hayes, David Porter.

Q (May 2002, p.126) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...More of a balladeer than a hard soul singer....this compilation...concentrates on the post-1968 era..." Mojo (Publisher) (5/02, p.116) - "...A thorughly recommended 14-track collection...from a defining Stax songwriter." Best Of William Bell Music Best Of William Bell Music Best Of William Bell Review

Best Of William Bell CD music
$10.45 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From Tokyo," boasted a riff as memorable as the one that defined "Smoke on the Water" and was later admitted by Ritchie Blackmore to have been ...
| | Manic Street Preachers This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours CD (1998) Japan
Best Of William Bell music CDs
$34.69 Japanese import edition, this includes two bonus tracks: "Socialist Serenade" and "Black Holes for the Young."
At the time of its release in 1998, THIS IS MY TRUTH TELL ME YOURS was the Manics' most commercially successful album to date. It included the singles "Tsunami," the brilliantly unwieldy "If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next," and the soaring "You Stole the Sun From My Heart."
Despite its success, this album remains true to the anarcho-punk socialist ethic, as the song titles "If You Tolerateà" and "I'm Not Working" indicate. Combining trademark social critique and despair with an equally typical high quality of songwriting, there is plenty here to occupy the discerning listener, and though "mature" can often denote a kind of mixed praise, this album could be described as such, in only the most positive way. Songs are more varied and melodic than those of previous albums, making THIS IS MY TRUTH TELL ME YOURS more accessible, but without sacrificing ...

This volume was released back in 1995 and featured the mighty Beau Jocque on the cover, the man who, like Clifton Chenier and Boozoo Chavis before him, changed the face of zydeco by taking it to another level. Since that time, Jocque has passed away, leaving us his precious few recordings and the music of his peers who were deeply influenced by his Cajun soul on a roll style of zydeco. Unlike the players that came after him, Jocque and his generation were indebted to and therefore respectful to the Cajun and zydeco traditions they came from. They understood the music of their forbears as a social one; the music they inherited from Chavis, John Delafose, and Chenier was rooted as deeply in the blues and R&B traditions of New Orleans as it was in the Cajun traditions of Evangeline Parish, and therefore played as dance music, party music, music to get drunk to, to laugh to, to do the down and dirty bump to. This did not mean it was empty of musical prowess, far from it, but innovation for Jocque and his contemporaries -- all of whom are still on the scene -- was secondary to feeling and purpose. This volume kicks off with two jumping tunes from Robby Robinson's Zydeco Force and Zydeco, respectively, which are featured on no less than four selections here. In "You Worry Me," the soulful blues of Solomon Burke and Johnnie Taylor are taken into consideration as an intersection point for raw zydeco romp. The result is a song form that holds as much feeling in it as it does movement. Chris Ardoin's "Black Cadillac," one of three offerings on this volume, considers the bravado of Wilson Pickett with an early Cajun reel and moves it up to 100 miles an hour. This is slip and glide music. It's impossible to dance to at the proper tempo so all that's left to do is let your backbone slip and shimmy to the raucous party of sounds and rhythms -- created by a hyper-kinetic washboard and a drum kit -- falling down around your ears. A great example of how the tradition is still held in esteem by Jocque's generation is in Geno Delafose's reading of Cajun music father Iry LeJeune's "Jeunes Filles de la Campagne." The rhythms and tempos are modern, the accordion runs are too, but the melody of the track and its harmonies remain intact, untouched by Delafose. There is no need to reconstruct ...
