FRAGILE marks the moment when Yes left the planet and took up residence on one of cover artist Roger Dean's far-off lands. While the band managed to capture the popular imagination with its condensed, accessible version of "Roundabout," which they edited down to a single from the lengthier album version, for the most part FRAGILE laid the groundwork for the expansive, complex, keyboard-dominated work that typified the style known as "progressive rock." The record also marks the arrival of Rick Wakeman--a classically trained keyboardist whose vast array of synthesizers and effects was matched only by his prodigious ability.
In addition to "Roundabout," the band's best-known song, the lengthy "Heart of the Sunrise" also became a Yes chestnut. Drummer Bill Bruford became the envy of air-drummers across America, and together with Wakeman, guitarist Steve Howe, vocalist Jon Anderson, and bassist Chris Squire created some of the most architecturally ambitious rock of the era. FRAGILE proved to be the band's breakthrough album, and is a cornerstone recording of the genre.
This marked the period when Yes left the planet and took up residence on one of artist Roger Dean's far-off lands. The musical transition is apparent with longer instrumental passages taking over from the three-minute song format. Lengthy pieces open and close the album, and both songs have become Yes chestnuts. 'Heart Of The Sunrise' and 'Roundabout' are strong tracks musically, with the latter winning out as being more accessible. Without detracting from Anderson, Howe, Bruford and Wakeman, Chris Squire's bass playing is superlative throughout.

FRAGILE marks the point when classically influenced progressive rockers Yes left planet Earth and took up residence on one of cover artist Roger Dean's far-off lands. The musical transition is apparent with longer instrumental passages taking over from the shorter song format of their early albums. Lengthy pieces open and close the album, and both songs have become Yes chestnuts. "Heart Of The Sunrise" and "Roundabout" are landmark tracks, with strong, darting solos and abrupt shifts, the latter winning more radio play for its greater accessibility. Without detracting from the exceptional work of messrs. Anderson, Howe, Bruford, and Wakeman, Chris Squire's rippling bass playing is a particularly superlative experience throughout.

$11.18 Although Steve Vai and Joe Satriani get the lion's share of the credit for popularizing "instrumental guitar-driven rock" for metalheads in the late '80s, another gentleman was merrily shredding on the six-string around this same era (and issuing all-instrumental recordings, as well) -- Steve Morse. And despite ...

Fragile CD music
$14.38 The latest album from Swedish doom rockers Katatonia, their first studio effort since 2006, is as moody and beautiful as their other latter-day work. The group's career can be marked in two stages based on the condition of singer Jonas Renske's vocal cords -- basically, after the band's first two albums, he developed health problems that prevented him from performing harsh death growls, and ever since the band has moved in an increasingly melodic direction, even covering songs by Will Oldham and Jeff Buckley. It's unsurprising ...

A vibrant, earthy music that makes the heart warm with gladness and the impossibility of remaining seated. Sung like little narratives, these are image-rich songs of love, passion, celebration, and a staying ...

| | Mccabes Live At Paddy Reillys CD (2008)
Fragile songs
$15.19 This was The McCabes' first ever CD. We recorded it one week before St Patrick's Day in 2001 at the legendary New York Irish club, Paddy Reillys. A lot of bands got their start here, which some have called the CBGB's of Irish venues. For example, Black 47, Eileen Ivers, Speir Mor, Rogues March, Tony de Marco (who still runs a session there every Thursday-New York's longest running session), and many others. We started our residency in Paddy Reillys' at the beginning of 2001 and such was the response to our shows that owner Steve Duggan suggested that we do a live recording. We needed no further prompting. We got the recording gear in and had the soundman press 'record'. We left it at that. We didn't edit a thing, not even wrong notes...! The ...
