| | Babu The Dilated Junkie Duck Season Vol. 1 CD Babu The Dilated Junkie Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
On the second release for the Sequence Records imprint under the Virgin/Ultra canopy, Babu, acclaimed DJ for crews the Beat Junkies and Dilated Peoples, steps out solo with his own mix CD. Featuring new tracks and mixes of De la Soul, Pete Rock, the Visionaries, Quasimoto, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, and Big Daddy Kane just for starters, this collection exceeds the expectations of most mixes and comes through with a listenable compilation packaged with a loose but lovable duck theme. Though lacking the scratching that is part of the Babu repertoire, Duck Season is still an outstanding representation of one turntable's greatest ears and wrists. ~ Nic Kincaid

In 1994, Nas dropped his debut, ILLMATIC. More than just a classic, it's perhaps the definitive East Coast street hip-hop record, bereft of cliché, rife with rich, inventive rhymes. His early coronation proved both blessing and curse, as his three follow-ups, while shining next to most platinum peers, never reached the ingenious heights of his introduction. Just by the title, STILLMATIC makes obvious its yearning to recapture that feel, a ridiculously tall order if not an impossible one, but it comes dangerously close, which merely makes it one of the top albums of its year.
At times it feels as if half of STILLMATIC consists of shots at Jay-Z, ex-cohort Prodigy, and others, at times thinly veiled, other times not veiled at all (the opening two words of "Ether"). Out of the mouths of others, this game would be old and boring. What allows Nas transcendence is that he is not your average ...

| | 50 Cent Massacre CD (2005) Edited
Duck Season Vol. 1 music CDs
$10.65 After years of hustling for his music and his life, and taking bullet after bullet, 50 Cent finally found massive success raining down suddenly on him, as he became the center of the hip-hop world in 2003 with his multi-platinum record GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN'. On the highly anticipated follow-up, THE MASSACRE, 50 reveals that he's unsure whether he's "God's child or Satan's angel," dropping this soul-searching moment as casually as the title in the chorus of the song, "I'm Supposed to Die Tonight."
If 50 Cent is calm in his delivery, it's more than matched by the ease of the lyrical couplets he unfolds. He could beat most challengers to a freestyle battle in his sleep, and raps as if he's known this from birth, a truth he expounds on in "This Is 50," as he effortlessly whips a rival. When partner-in-platinum-sales Eminem, drops by on "Gatman and Robbin," 50 Cent shows he can bring the energy, but, for the most part, the rapper stays in his wonderfully jaded comfort zone. He smoothly packs the dance floor on the single "Disco Inferno," before unwinding the most laid-back of seductions on "Just a Lil Bit." If anyone thought 50 Cent might have burned out in his flurry of prosperity, THE MASSACRE, a strong sophomore effort, should set the record straight.
Following up one of the biggest debuts in hip-hop history, crack dealer turned charisma dealer 50 Cent makes some bold moves, recycles plenty of old ideas, and sprinkles in some perfect party singles for The Massacre. Crafty man that he is, 50 must have known following up the massive Get Rich or Die Tryin' was going to be extremely difficult, especially for a rapper rightfully known more for creating headlines than rhymes. To cushion the blow, 50 released an album by his G-Unit crew, made numerous guest appearances on other artist's tracks, and helmed ten mixtapes in his G-Unit Radio series. It kept the debut momentum moving and it's half the reason why The Massacre doesn't feel like Get Rich's proper successor, the other half being the album's effortless attitude. That's the most frustrating thing about the otherwise satisfying Massacre. At worst, it feels unfinished, and at best, it feels like a mixtape cobbled together from mostly choice tracks but without that overseer's polish. At a stunning, slightly overstuffed 78 minutes, it's overwhelming, ...
