| | Ultra Chilled 02 CD (1 Customer Review)
Following up the smash success of Volume 1, Ultra Chilled 02 is a great mix of the next generation of chilled out tunes. Artists include Nelly Furtado, Bebel Gilberto, Tosca, Beth Orton, Coldplay, Royksopp, Sasha, Zero 7 and many more. Slipcase. 2002.
Personnel: Brian Amos, Richie Havens (vocals). Audio Mixer: David Waxman. Audio Remixer: Mario Caldato, Jr. Editor: David Waxman. Arranger: Nitin Sawhney. The blueprint for Ultra Chilled, Vol. 2 is the same as the solid first edition in Ultra's downbeat series -- which rose above the heap of substandard, commercialized chill-out compilations -- with compilers balancing a few downtempo tracks by a varying cast of vocal artists (Coldplay, the Specials, Black Box Recorder, Nelly Furtado, Bebel Gilberto, Radiohead) with electronica specialists (here, usual suspects like Boards of Canada, Groove Armada, Thievery Corporation, Tosca, Fila Brazillia, and Röyksopp). ~ John Bush Fans eager for a successor to the solid first edition in Ultra's downbeat series -- which rose above the heap of substandard, commercialized chill-out compilations -- will likely be disappointed by Ultra Chilled, Vol. 2. The blueprint is the same, with compilers balancing a few downtempo tracks by a varying cast of vocal artists (Coldplay, the Specials, Black Box Recorder, Nelly Furtado, Bebel Gilberto, Radiohead) with electronica specialists (here, usual suspects like Boards of Canada, Groove Armada, Thievery Corporation, Tosca, Fila Brazillia, and Röyksopp). Still, where the first volume sounded calm, pastoral, and charmed, Ultra Chilled, Vol. 2 sounds limp-wristed and wimpy, slipping from an inviting chill-out mix into bland coffee-table fare. Richie Havens' guest vocal on Groove Armada's "Little by Little" is substandard elevator music, and even a great track like Goldfrapp's "Lovely Head" sounds contrived when it's ripped from the context of the LP. Virtually without exception, the tracks aren't up to the high level of Ultra Chilled, Vol. 1, while the mix and transitions sound forced. Ironically, this compilation falls right into the trap that has caught most chill-out compilations: All the hallmarks of a great mix -- a diverse cast of artists, well-chosen songs, suitable transitions -- become so diluted that the results rival the edginess of waiting-room music. ~ John Bush

Audio Remixer: Jam & Spoon. Liner Note Author: Matt Diehl. Recording information: Indeep Studios, NY. Editor: David Waxman. Despite the rather unfortunate title, Ultra Chilled, Vol. 1 assembles some of the most established names in down-tempo electronica and trip-hop, mixing them with some relative unknowns. The flow from Dido to Gorillaz to St. Germain to Morcheeba is deceptively ...

Ultra Chilled 02
$20.39 This is the debut of Canadian art-rockers Coney Hatch. Remaster adds three songs. CD contains 3 bonus tracks. Having quickly made a name for themselves on the Canadian club circuit, Coney Hatch signed with fledgling Anthem Records in early 1981 and proceeded to record their freshman effort with no other than legendary singer/songwriter (and label boss) Kim Mitchell acting as producer. Not too shabby. In an era when rock radio thrived on a steady diet of Boston, Journey, and Foreigner (vocalist Carl Dixon drew comparisons to a less strident Lou Gramm, fused ...

$6.69 Locust Avenue started in 2001 as a demo project recorded by Jeff Richardson and Drew Van Wagner with assistance on bass and drums from Chris Van Wagner. These demos produced the first album "Songs for the Shortwave." Response to the album was surprisingly good to Richardson, a resident of Norman, OK. After leaving the state for two and a half years Richardson formed a band in Norman, OK under the same name of Locust Avenue with Matt Carson (guitar, vocals) Jeff Cooper (bass) and Blaine Palmer (drums.) The second Locust Avenue ...
