NADIE COMO TU won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album.
Solido follows its first 2001 Grammy-nominated effort with this entry in the Grammy stakes, an accomplished collection of impeccably arranged Norteno songs. The title track is an up-tempo ballad, while "Nada Me Explique Mas" is a more stately but no less percussive affair, complete with the band's trademark tight harmonies.
The rest of the album consists of fare such as the cumbia of "Te Amo, Te Extrano," ranchera stylings in the form of "Con Un Segundo" and the more sensual bolero rhythms of "Pobre Diablo," all of which Solido performs in a traditional style that eschews contemporary flourishes in favor of more conventional arrangements. NADIE COMO TU is a solid effort that, while breaking no new ground for the aptly named quintet, should serve to consolidate its growing reputation as a reliable, workmanlike Norteno outfit.

| | Johnny Hodges Planet Jazz CD (1998) Import
Nadie Como Tu CD music
$9.79 Planet Jazz is a name for a BMG/RCA budget line jazz series, inviting confusion with a minimum of two combos using the expansive phrase as a band name. "Planet jazz" may also be regarded as some sort of philosophy involving world control, meanwhile many listeners find the entire genre out of control, as if nobody had taken the time to "plan it" at all. In the case of Johnny Hodges, one of dozens of stars catalogued in this series, we have a star saxophone soloist whose romantic, clearly constructed improvisations certainly appeal to a wide audience. Cynics will of course want to point out that his only hit record as a bandleader featured a different saxophone soloist entirely. The closest he came to the kind of world music or cosmic jazz implied by the notion of Planet Jazz would be one of Billy Strayhorn's exotically tinged themes such as "Isfahan." Hodges was not a John Coltrane type, although he had the tenor saxophonist as a sideman in an early-'50s band, well before Coltrane turned into the mystical dude with the tenor tone quite capable of dominating the planet. Hodges' world is one of romance, ...

Nadie Como Tu CD music
$10.15 All eleven tracks on Jump Into the Night are original improvisations, recorded live. There's no overdubbing, mixing, editing or extra tracks added in post production. These songs are the result of the interplay between two very creative and fearless musicians. Alan writes, 'It is incredibly exhilarating to channel the combined energy of the piano and the drums into a melodic form on the fly. Since starting on this odyssey, I have found that the melodic conversation between the piano and drum is truly unlimited. Adam and ...
