From the long, elaborate intro to this live album, you might think you had popped in a Pink Floyd disc by mistake. Thankfully, things right themselves in short order, as the smooth but complex pop/gospel harmonies of this much-loved group take center stage. Though members of the Commissioned have gone on to solo careers (most notably the solo gospel sensation Fred Hammond), it was as an ensemble that these men first endeared themselves to scads of contemporary gospel enthusiasts. The reunion concert documented here is a major event for that audience, and the energy going back and forth between the crowd and the Commissioned is audible. From the blazing, horn-punctuated pop-funk of "I'm Going On" to the gentle, R&B-laced ballad "Lay Your Troubles Down," the group testifies with such soulfulness that it's difficult to imagine why they ever separated in the first place.

Live is Good Excellent project...All the old favorites are on there...There were some songs on there I was not familiar with and the music, arrangement and vocals were outstanding. This project makes me want to go out and buy all their old music. These guys truly were pioneers in quality contemporary gospel music. Submitted by a reviewer (Dallas, TX) Was This Review Helpful? What An Awesome Release! I can't express how great this concert is. This CD has stayed in my player since I received it from CD Universe. I went to the Commissioned Reunion concert when it came through Atlanta a few weeks ago and it thoroughly blessed my soul. This recording takes me back to the concert all over again every time I listen to it. These guys are greatly talented. They still have the same sound that they had when they released their first album back in the day. I wish their getting back together wasn't just for a reunion tour. The Commissioned of today just don't have the same flavor that the original group had. These guys should stay together. They really make one remarkable group. WISH IT WERE MORE THAN A REUNION I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO GO TO THE LIVE CONCERT. BUT I DID GET THE VIDEO. WOW!!! I FELT LIKE I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH ONE OF THE GREATEST GOSPEL GROUPS OF ALL TIME. THE SOUND WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THE LAST TIME I SAW THEM. IF YOU LOVE GOSPEL MUSIC, BUY EVERY COMMISIONED ALBUM THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR HAND ON. YOU WILL BE BLESSED.
