Brentwood's America's Favorite Patriotic Songs collects 11 choral and orchestral renditions of America's most celebratory songs, including "The Star Spangled Banner," "God Bless America," "America the Beautiful," and "My Country 'Tis of Thee." On a couple of songs, such as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Armed Forces Medley: The Official Song," the vocal and instrumental arrangements sound a bit stiff, but for the most part this is a competent collection of traditionally performed American anthems. ~ Heather Phares

| | Greyhounds Liberty CD (2004)
America's Favorite Patriotic Songs CD music
$13.95 Rehearsed and fine-tuned during a residency at the Liberty Theater in Tyler, TX, in late 2002, the Greyhounds' second album has the loose, live feel and eclectic vibe of a bunch of like-minded musicians working together absent distractions and predetermined structures. Firmly based in old-school R&B but bringing in elements of funk, blues, '70s-style boogie, and the usual noodle-rock, these 14 tracks don't bring anything new to the jam band party, but they're played with obvious good spirits. However, because the first dozen tracks are kept down to pop-single length (not a one breaking the five-minute mark), it's not until the expansive closers "All My Fault" and "Pat G's" that the band opens up into improvisational workouts. Up until that point, Liberty suffers from a certain degree of groovus interruptus, even on catchy R&B-based rockers like "Black Hole." ~ Stewart Mason
The Greyhounds are turning heads by combining raw grooves and fresh melodies with elements of classic funk, oldschool blues, and straightup soul. Not just your average funk band, Greyhounds infuse some much needed levity into the proceedings with a dynamic presence that goes far beyond mere musicianship. They enjoy what they're doing, and it's more than evident in their highly energetic shows. As tight breakdowns and relentless vibes ricochet off the walls, both wallflowers and groove connoisseurs alike will find themselves heading towards the floor to get their boogie on.Originally formed in L.A., Greyhounds hit the road in 2000 and began building quite a reputation for themselvesas road dogs, no pun intended. After two personnel changes and a relocation to Texas in 2002, the band foundthemselves ...
