Like the Deftones, Codeseven mixes its metal history with emotional pop influences for a record that really transcends genre. The title Rescue says it all: This isn't death metal, doom metal, or nu-metal -- far from it, the record is part emo, part pop, and a little metal. "Southie" couples vocal pleas with melodic grandeur and then adds in some metal bombast. "The Camel City" evokes the slick psychedelic rock of Pink Floyd circa A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The dark atmosphere of "Sounds of Cyan and Magenta" sounds closest to Echo & the Bunnymen and "Smell of Yellow and Black" is pure space rock, with vocals that conjure up Jeff Buckley. When all is said and done, Codeseven manages to totally confound listeners' expectations with a resonant album poised for wide appeal. ~ Charles Spano

| | Ludacris Word Of Mouf CD (2001) Edited
Rescue CD music
$12.65 WORD OF MOUF was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album.
"Rollout (My Business)" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Male Rap Solo Performance.
For this Atlanta-based rapper, keeping true to street roots has never been a concern, since he's always remained so close to them. Far from the east and west coast hip-hop star mills, this southern sensation rose up from the underground and never abandoned what he'd learned there. His third album WORD OF MOUF may find Ludacris surrounded by a brace of guests that include both heavy hitters (Mystikal, Jagged Edge, Nate Dogg) and more unknown names (Sleepy Brown, Keon Bryce, Fate Wilson), but he draws on his own considerable verbal skills and unique urban vision as the foundations for his work.
Ludacris' second album for Def Jam, Word of Mouf, is a superstar affair that aims for mass appeal with a broad array of different styles. Nearly every track features some sort of collaborator, either hitmaking producers like Timbaland and Organized Noize, big-name rappers like Mystikal and Twista, hook-singing crooners like Nate Dogg and Jagged Edge, or fellow Disturbing tha Peace group members I-20, Shawnna, Lil' Fate, and Tity Boi -- and sometimes a combinations ...
| | Jerry Cantrell Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2 CDs (2002) Limited Edition
Rescue music CDs
$20.69 This Limited edition of DEGRADATION TRIP features bonus material from the
The impact Jerry Cantrell made with his former band Alice In Chains set the blueprint for hard rock in the 1990s like few others. Widely imitated yet never successfully replicated, Cantrell remains a seemingly boundless fountain of crunchy, groove-heavy riffs and eerie vocal harmonies. After a compromise with his label (Roadrunner Records) to release a one-disc version, Cantrell's musical vision can finally be appreciated with the breadth and sequencing he originally intended with DEGRADATION TRIP VOLUMES 1 & 2.
The eleven additional cuts are far from scraps recovered from the cutting room floor. "Pro False Idol" and "Dying Inside" are musical studies of an artist struggling with the sticky marriage of art and commerce, while the sole instrumental "Hurts Don't It?" speaks with as much emotional articulation as any of the vocal tracks. As dark and looming as much of the set is, Cantrell is equally skilled at putting his bitingly honest lyrics into more hopeful musical tapestries, such as "31/32." With closure on the Alice In Chains legacy (due to the tragic death of vocalist ...
| | Incubus Crow Left Of The Murder... CD (2004)
Rescue songs
$8.19 In 2003, after successfully renegotiating their contract with Epic, Incubus struggled further in parting ways with bassist Dirk Lance. When a proven lineup has a successful chemistry, there is always the danger of tampering with that magic when a personnel change occurs. Luckily, Incubus dodged that bullet and struck gold with four-stringer Ben Kenney (Roots/Blackalicious).
The requisite elements that Incubus fans have come to expect are firmly in place on A CROW LEFT OF THE MURDER, with the up-tempo bombast of "Megalomaniac" and "Beware? Criminal," the softer dynamics of "Southern Girl," ...
| | Fear Factory Archetype CD (2004)
Rescue album
$12.59 As influential originators of a revolutionary and oft-copied hybrid of metal and industrial dance music, Fear Factory is one of the few groups that could release an album entitled ARCHETYPE without a hint of self-aggrandizement. The music contained within lives up to the disc's name, but the band also continues to evolve, expanding its sound without making the slightest concession to music-industry pressure or prevailing trends.
Despite the absence of guitarist/founding member Dino Cazares (who left the group ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Rescue CD music
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and powerful drumming. Each song is based around memorable vocal hooks and sensitive lyrical content.
Many tracks on CATCH WITHOUT ARMS have a searching quality to them. Despite the sheer force of the music, this release ...
| | Lynyrd Skynyrd Twenty CD (1997)
Rescue music CDs
$8.65 The song "Travelin' Man" features one of the final live vocal recordings of Ronnie Van Zant mixed with a new studio vocal by younger brother Johnny Van Zant.
TWENTY, the title of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1997 release, was a reminder that 20 years had passed since the tragic plane crash that killed Lynyrd Skynyrd bandmembers Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines. It also marked the first time that ex-Blackfoot guitarist Ricky Medlock appeared on a full Skynyrd studio album as an official member (he was actually an early member of the band prior to their '73 debut). Highlights include the guitar jamfest "Bring It On," "How Soon We Forget," and "None of Us is Free." While not a classic like Skynyrd's '70s output (SECOND HELPING, STREET SURVIVORS, etc.), TWENTY showed that the band was still alive and well in the '90s.
Recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound, Sheffield, Alabama on January 28, 1997 and live at The Fox Theater, Atlanta, Georgia on July 7 and July 9, 1976. Includes liner notes by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
