From New Orleans. On Tour W/ Creed This Spring.
12 Stones includes: Paul McCoy (vocals); Eric Weaver (guitar); Kevin Dorr (bass); Aaron Gainer (drums). Recorded at NRG, North Hollywood, California; Glenwood Place Studios, Burbank, California. Personnel: Eric Weaver (guitar); Aaron Gainer (drums). Audio Mixer: Jay Baumgardner. Recording information: NRG, North Hollywood, CA. Photographer: Sean Murphy. Wind-Up Entertainment struck gold with Creed, and the label has made post-grunge rock its signature sound ever since. The trend continues with this eponymous debut from 12 Stones. The New Orleans natives perfectly combine the melodic intervention of Three Doors Down with a sense of dramatic dynamics right out of Nickelback's bag of tricks. It's all held together by soaring vocals -- akin to a more polished version of (four more stones) Gavin Rossdale -- that will sound oh so perfect coming out of a radio speaker, along with more technical axe-work, particularly in the soloing, than the more commercial fare usually has. When you throw in a solid mix courtesy of producer Jay Baumgardner (Drowning Pool, Papa Roach) that accentuates all of the hit-making potential of tracks such as "Open Your Eyes," lead single "Broken," and the tribal "Soulfire," 12 Stones seems to be a can't-miss prospect from start to finish. ~ Brian O'Neill Whereas groups like Staind move in a linear fashion from full-on rockers to ruminative power ballads, the four young men of 12 Stones instead take a page from the book of Nirvana, unabashedly moving back and forth between depth-charge nu-metal and melodic, contemplative moods within the space of a single song. In fact, this is the modus operandi for the lion's share of the songs on the band's self-titled debut album. Judging from the chart placing of 12 STONES it seems that the gambit worked in a big way. And why not? With such songs as "Crash" and "Back Up" those who appreciate the heavy stuff and the mellower mode in equal measure can have their cake and eat it too. Just don't get any of that cake on the band's rug, because judging from the piercing attack of those grinding guitars, they know how to administer the proverbial beatin'.

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
12 Stones
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its pop culture, I don't know what does, expect for maybe a VH1-endorsed piece of product like Live in Dublin. Lo and behold, that's exactly what the Corrs received in the spring of 2002, a year and a half after "In Blue" and its accompanying single "Breathless" ...

| | 12 Stones Potter's Field CD (2004)
12 Stones
$7.59 12 Stones: Paul McCoy (vocals); Greg Trammell, Eric Weaver (guitar); Aaron Gainer (drums, background vocals). 12 Stones' sophomore effort aims to capitalize on the recognition brought by Paul McCoy's memorable chorus cameo in the Evanescence monster hit "Bring Me to Life." It opts for a more powerful, guitar-heavy sound than their 2002 debut, and demands maximum radio-friendly compression from returning producer/mixer Dave Fortman. This approach should make thick-stemmed rockers like "Speak Your Mind" and "Far Away" quite palatable to loud rock audiences, or at least those who want more from the Creed fallout than Alter Bridge. For that's what 12 Stones offers -- urgent post-grunge rockers that follow a distinct and marketable formula. Loud lead riffs balance on introspective verses, which then burst into elegiac and/or bittersweet chorus melodies that get the hands ...
| | 12 Stones Anthem For The Underdog CD (2007)
12 Stones
$7.59 Personnel: Skidd Mills, Eric Weaver, Justin Rimer (guitar); Anna Acosta (violin); Scott Hardin (piano); Aaron Gainer (drums). Audio Mixers: Skidd Mills; Chris Lord-Alge. Recording information: 747 Studios, Memphis, TN. Illustrator: Dougie Cowan. Jesus was the most popular (posthumously at least) underdog in history, so it comes as no surprise that CCM band 12 Stones would devote their third album to that aspect of His divinity. What does surprise, however, is the almost prog-rock complexity that such a simple sentiment inspires. With interesting guitar leads that explore all the possibilities of the bottom strings, and almost symphonic codas and bridges, the title track leaps out and sets the stage for the monster riffs and sophisticated ideas to follow. The other stand-out track is the power ballad ...

| | Our Brother The Native Tooth & Claw CD (2006)
12 Stones
$12.19 Liner Note Authors: Joshua Bertram; Chaz Knapp. Recording information: 09/2005-01/2006. You can't fault Our Brother the Native for trying to make the best of this album. The fact that the band created this debut record before even meeting as a group should definitely raise eyebrows, though, and the trio has created one of the more bizarre, disjointed, fragmented, and at times boring pieces of music you've probably heard. The album starts off on a promising note with "Introduction -- Welcome to the Aviary," which sounds like a cross between Devendra Banhart and children skipping rope to a Syd Barrett nursery rhyme. But after those precious few moments, the song peters out quickly. "Apodiformes" is a faster, uptempo tune before spacy vocals and effects come in and out of the subtle folk-pop song. It contains a childlike delivery with some interesting accents that seems to make it work, with good but not great results. The songs are promising to start, particularly the light, airy Floyd-ian feel that oozes from "Falconiformes." The song's Southern-tinted vocals give it a warm, earthy feel. But it then devolves into something quite weird, with high-pitched female vocals coming into the mix. Early on, the listener realizes this might work in a live setting with film accompanying ...
