| | Eric Bachmann Reservoir Songs CD Eric Bachmann Discography of CDs
More of a fun aside than a proper Crooked Fingers album, 2002's RESERVOIR SONGS skips Eric Bachmann's usual blend of spirited rock & roll and confessional poetry in favor of a quick, righteously sloppy run-through of several of the covers the band uses to close shows. It's a fairly eclectic mix, although themes of isolation and alienation, typical for Bachmann, predominate. The treatments range from respectful and pretty faithful versions of Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and Bruce Springsteen's "The River" to enjoyably rough-edged and rocking versions of Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man" and Prince's power-poppy "When You Were Mine."
The Diamond and Prince tunes benefit from the band's clattering way with a tune, a mixture of the early Band's earthiness (Alex McManus contributes euphonium, of all instruments, to a couple of tracks) and the rock & roll swagger of prime Faces. The one track that doesn't quite work is a remake of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure"; by de-emphasizing that famous bass line, the very heart of the song is removed. Other than that one misstep, RESERVOIR SONGS is a hoot.
Recorded in Atlanta, Georgia on January 11-15, 2002.

Purchase Reservoir Songs CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Silkworm Italian Platinum CD (2002)
Reservoir Songs
$13.05 Silkworm is not one of those indie rock bands one can easily pigeonhole, or for that matter forget. Like Pavement, they present lyrics running the gamut from the absurdly prescient to the simply absurd, sung in a lilting, off-key style (although Andy Cohen's vocals eminate from a darker and grittier ...
| | Bright Eyes Lifted Or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground CD (2002)
Reservoir Songs
$9.75 Nebraskan singer/songwriter Conor Oberst began combining troubadourism with emo rock at a ridiculously early age, inspired by the older, more literate Nebraska cult hero Simon Joyner (whose huge influence is somehow always overlooked by journalists). Recording prolifically for local indie label Saddle Creek, Oberst (as Bright Eyes, with or without accompaniment) gradually refined his Neil Young-with-ADD sound over the years. LIFTED OR THE STORY IS IN THE SOIL...is his most ambitious outing to date, featuring keyboards, ...
| | Ryan Adams Demolition CD (2002)
Reservoir Songs
$12.59 As part of the prolific flow of material that found him releasing three albums in two years, ex-Whiskeytown frontman Ryan Adams continued to surf his wave of popularity with 2002's DEMOLITION, a baker's dozen worth of demos. Culled from five separate demo recording sessions, these songs find Adams all over the stylistic map indulging in some twangy, pedal-steel-soaked tendencies ("Hallelujah"), making like Paul Westerberg with a Byrds Jones ("Gimme A Sign"), and tucking into echoey ballads ("Dear Chicago").
Adams also delicately duets with fellow y'alternative stalwart Gillian Welch ...
| | Eric Bachmann Red Devil Dawn CD (2003)
Reservoir Songs
$12.19 Eric Bachmann, the man behind the Crooked Fingers moniker (and former frontman of indie rock icons Archers of Loaf) unveiled his masterpiece, the follow-up to a fascinating EP of covers. RED DEVIL DAWN mines the mélange of influences weighing down his first couple of Crooked efforts--namely, a newfound Neil Diamond vocal machismo and a Tom Waits-cum-Leonard Cohen rustic melancholy--and uses them as the foundation ...
| | Let's Go Sailing Chaos In Order CD (2007)
Reservoir Songs
$9.75 Let's Go Sailing seems like a pretty average twee band, what with their penchant for the Smiths, their album's construction paper and crayon artwork, and Shana Levy's vulnerable, often vibrato-less vocals. But those who can get past The Chaos in Order's darling cover art will find an album as full of pathos as anything put out by the would-be Elliott Smiths of the world. Let's Go Sailing sounds a little like Rosie Thomas, but they're better off shelved next to Great Aunt Ida; they're whimsical and gentle, but they're also blessed with a complicating, wry world-weariness. "Sideways" is a great example of this -- it's sugary and pop-oriented, ...

| | Tailgators It's A Hog Groove CD (1996)
Reservoir Songs
$27.95 All songs written by Don Leady except "Tico Tico" (Zequina Abreu), "Howlin' For My Darlin'" (C. Burnett/W. Dixon), "Deuces Wild" (Link Wray) and "Keep Your Hands Off Her" (Gill Turner/Huddie Ledbetter).
The Tailgators' music has always been rooted in American rock. For this effort they reach into the swamp country of Louisiana and come out with some smokin' zydeco. The title track "Hog Groove," which is also the first on the album, is a hot tune. Don Leady's accordion licks sound as if zydeco music has been in his blood all his life; he's a natural. Even though the solos are not complex, they are certainly soulful and melodic. The rhythm section keeps the beat strong and very danceable. Variety is a key word in describing this record. On "Tico Tico," one finds a neat Latin-flavored instrumental with hints of a surf influence coming from the lead guitar phrasings. With the next tune, "Stop That Rappin," the sound moves toward a straightforward boogie-woogie; it has all the fixings for the swing generation of the new millennium. "Talk to Me" falls into the blues-zydeco style, with some super sax work from Joe Cabral. What gives this song a special feel are the small nuances which Don Leady's accordion accents lend. "Howlin' for My Darlin' " is a funk-driven blues cover that showcases the talent behind the drum kit. "Shake That Zydeco" has excellent vocal harmonies in the chorus and features some more of the accordion that really swings, all the while resounding the classic groove from " 'Til the Cows Come Home." "Button Box" is sure to be a favorite of Cajun/zydeco music fans, the "button box" being a reference ...
