Les Indispensables De Bob Marley & The Wailers album
$11.99 Tinged with overtones of dancehall ("Khaki Suit") and urban contemporary R&B (the silky smooth "Beautiful," which features a cameo from Bobby Brown), WELCOME TO JAMROCK is a melting pot of an album, one as well suited to the streets of Brooklyn as the neighborhoods of Kingston. The cover image--which depicts Marley in militaristic garb surrounded by corrugated metal fences--indicates ...
| | Collie Buddz CD (2007)
Les Indispensables De Bob Marley & The Wailers CD music
$7.59 The self-titled debut from Jamaican dancehall singer Collie Buddz makes good on the promise of his smash-hit single "Come Around." A bouncy, catchy, feel-good ode to the powers of herbal intoxicants, "Come Around" rattled the charts in Europe, the U.S., and his homeland, earning plenty of pre-album buzz. ...
| | Steel Pulse Earth Crisis CD (1984) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Les Indispensables De Bob Marley & The Wailers music CDs
$9.05 According to Steel Pulse front man David Hinds, Elektra Records informed the band--just prior to the 1984 recording of EARTH CRISIS--that they wanted the band to sound like then-popular, commercially oriented reggae artist Eddy Grant. Elektra's bid for a mainstream reggae cash-in helps explain the slick, highly polished sound of EARTH CRISIS. The breezy "Steppin' Out" and the bouncing, poppy "Tightrope" (both of which became permanent additions to the band's live repertoire) kick off the set, buttressed by bright synth lines and lush, layered vocal harmonies.
Yet Steel Pulse's particular skill has always been in giving lock-step reggae grooves singable melodies and a smooth, accessible patina. In this way, EARTH CRISIS is one of the band's most emblematic albums, a fact reflected in its great commercial success. Admirably, Steel Pulse maintains their commitment to socially and politically conscious themes here, on the environmentally concerned title ...

| | Peter Tosh Bush Doctor CD (1978) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Les Indispensables De Bob Marley & The Wailers album
$8.85 Keith Sterling (keyboards); Sly Dunbar (drums, percussion); Larry McDonald, Sticky (percussion).
From his days as one of the original Wailers in the '60s until his violent death at the hands of thieves in 1987, Peter Tosh was one of Jamaican music's most outspoken and controversial artists. Though his former partner Bob Marley never shied away from political or social statements himself, Tosh eschewed Marley's gift for metaphor and parable in favor of such explicitly political slogans as the legendary "Legalize It."
BUSH DOCTOR, widely considered one of Tosh's best solo albums, features the similarly plain-spoken title track, which became one of his signature songs, the seething "Dem Ha Fe Get A Beatin'," and the devotionally Rasta "Soon Come" and "Creation." Other tracks, like "Stand Firm" and "I'm The Toughest," are more general statements of defiance and self-determination ...

Les Indispensables De Bob Marley & The Wailers CD music
$12.25 A combination of new and previously released tracks, Tempo Technik Teamwork serves as a showcase for the increasingly ambitious Staubgold label and its often excellent roster. Though originally more focused on electronic/IDM approaches, Staubgold's shift encompasses everything from modern laptop shoegaze and installation music to calm piano balladry and delicate, dark singer/songwriter efforts. If not everything is flat-out spectacular on Tempo Technik Teamwork, the winners surface much more often than not. It doesn't hurt that the compilation starts with a stone-cold winner in an edit of "Now Right Here" by Minit -- a beautiful combination of Spectrum-styled drone haze and a simple but exultant bassline, it's proof that bliss-out ...
