Those who only associate Robert Palmer with singing "Addicted to Love" in the 1980s in front of black-clad models do both Palmer and themselves a great disservice. In fact, from the '70s on, Palmer credibly covered everyone from the Meters to Gary Numan, and successfully tackled blues, soul, reggae, rock, R&B, and even calypso. The British singer's smooth-yet-soulful voice was a rare and precious thing, and his knack for selecting material was peerless.
