| | Atticus: Dragging The Lake CD (2 Customer Reviews)
Feat.:Alkaline Trio/Midtown/ Mmbosstones/Blink 182/Newfound
Personnel: Mark Hoppus (vocals). Atticus Clothing is a company started by two of the guys from Blink-182 and they sponsor lots of bands and "extreme" athletes. This compilation of 24 different bands is somewhat of a soundtrack to their company. The acts on here are really not too bad, with everything from the hardcore stylings of American Nightmare to the screamy punk of Finch to everyone's favorite indie rock/mainstream band, Jimmy Eat World, and the Chicago punk stylings of Alkaline Trio. Most people will no doubt recognize almost all of these acts and the best part is that the large majority of them perform previously unreleased material. There are a lot of people who would buy this for an unreleased Blink-182 song alone, but throw in unreleased tracks from Rival Schools, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, A New Found Glory, and Glassjaw and teenagers all over the country will no doubt be buying this up and singing along in no time. Like many of the bands on here, this compilation is no doubt bound for success. ~ Kurt Morris This eclectic and wide-ranging mix of punk rock stars, contenders, and also-rans from across the national scene as collected by Boston's Side One Dummy label is chock full of the kind of angst-ridden material (mixed with a few drinking songs) that's been beloved of punk performers ever since Iggy first started rolling around on broken light bulbs. The label's own Mighty Mighty Bosstones contribute their own distinctive high-octane brand of punk ska with "Sugar Free," while from the other side of the continent Blink-182 shows they're still in touch with the scene with their previously unreleased collision of matter and anti-matter "Time to Break Up." Jimmy Eat World's live version of "A Praise Chorus" shows the band at its emocore best, taking the message back to the Brits in London, while Chicago's own Alkaline Trio's "Jaked on Green Beers" follows in the band's triumphal tradition of alcohol-and-perturbation-filled songs such as 2000's "Snake Oil Tanker." A successful mix of punk rock solidarity and commercial smarts, DRAGGING THE LAKE will doubtless become a punk primer for the uninitiated as well as a being great listen for the cognoscenti.

| | Thrills Teenager CD (2007)
Atticus: Dragging The Lake
$15.65 2007 (and isn't it only appropriate) summer release of the third album from the Irish Rock band. The album was recorded in Vancouver in a studio owned by Bryan Adams, recommended to them by REM for it's sound quality...and the fact that the building is haunted (as evidenced by the testimony of the staff)! Sessions were completed in 2006 and the first half of 2007 saw the group completing the mixdown and mastering.
The Thrills (Ireland): Conor Deasy (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica); Daniel Ryan (guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass instrument, background vocals); Pádraic McMahon (guitar, bass instrument, background vocals); Kevin Horan (piano, organ, background vocals); Ben Carrigan (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Stevie Blacke (cello). Coming more than three years after the Thrills' commercially successful and critically acclaimed second album, LET'S BOTTLE BOHEMIA, TEENAGER finds the Irish quintet changing little of their California-style soft-rock sound. Reuniting with producer Tony Hoffer, who helmed their debut album, SO MUCH FOR THE CITY, TEENAGER maintains the harmony-heavy, piano- and acoustic guitar-based sound of their earlier albums on tracks like the dreamy first single, "Nothing Changes Round Here," and the bright-eyed "This Year." In keeping with the album's title, the sort of wistfulness for lost youth ...
