Sure, the four heavy rockers who make up Earshot have obviously listened to their fair share of Tool. What 21st century hard rock band worth its Marshall amplifiers doesn't wear its influences proudly, whether its hip MC 5 updaters like the Hives and White Stripes, or these young lads? Though earshot utilizes Tool-like crunching, constricted riffs and Will Martin's measured-but-passionate vocal style bears more than a passing similarity to Maynard James Keenan, Earshot leans more toward an accessible, radio-ready nu-metal style than the quirky prog-metal eccentricities of the older band. And though the tempo on LETTING GO occasionally slows to a bluesy stomp, one has to admire the aesthetic integrity implicit in the band's refusal to throw a token ballad a la Staind. Relentlessness is sometimes its own reward; especially in heavy rock.
This sledgehammer debut is proof that a heavy rock band can be melodic, diverse and shot through with substance. 11 tracks. 2002.

Earshot - the new Tool Many may have noticed that Earshot's sound and voice are not totally unique in the music world. But their style is. The music on this album is first rate stuff, and if the only song you've heard is the one they're playing on the radio, then my friend, you've got to get this album. If you liked "Get Away" then you'll love the rest. Buy it!!! Submitted by James4796 (Winchendon, MA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Eerily rhythmic... and not at all what i expected. Just having finished their performance at Earthday Birthday, Earshot is an excellent group as far as having a somewhat unique sound. Their debit cd is best described as a harder toned Adema. To comment on the 'tool impostors' rumor I've heard in the recent past, it's truly not the case at all. An excellent cd, so long as you dont mind going deaf at a early age. Submitted by a reviewer (Winter Park, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
There's no Letting Go of EARSHOT! Opening chords that spark your interest -- music that draws you in...couple that with intense lyrics and you've got "Letting Go". The CD is full of energy and packs a powerful punch. Songs like "Headstrong", "Misery" and "Get Away" bring you to a climatic peak, while "Not Afraid" and "Unfortunate One" slow the tempo, then picks up force again with "We Fall, We Stand" and "My Time". This is definitely a CD that you must have. Submitted by a reviewer (San Francisco) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A great debut from Earshot! LETTING GO is a wonderful debut album from Earshot. From the hard-hitting opening track "Headstrong" to the clean-cut first single "Get Away", Earshot has tons of potential. At times, singer/guitarist Will Martin reminds me of Maynard James Keenan from Tool, but he has a style all his own. Other songs like the chugging "Misery", the well-crafted "Not Afraid", the tight "Ordinary Girl", and the thumping closer "My Time", Earshot's debut has lots of great songs to keep anyone happy. Easily one of the greatest debuts and one of my top 10 albums of the summertime. Highly recommended! Submitted by a reviewer (Springfield, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Motograter CD (2003)
Letting Go CD music
$9.09 The aggressive post-grunge thrash of Motograter's self-titled debut is easily derivative of new-millennium alt-metal. Led by the hungry growl of Ghost, Motograter is typically critical of social norms and American capitalism, and such anger carries the band's tantrum-like playing style. The 22-track album consists of 11 songs spelled correctly, while their snippet sequels are fillers with backwards titles, and such a design captures Motograter's own adverse mystique. Layered guitars chug on cuts like "Red," "Wrong," and "Prophecies" ...

$13.05 Along with Woody Guthrie, Huddie Leadbetter modernized folk music, laying down a sturdy foundation for the folk revival that would blossom in the late '50s and early '60s. And even if one has never heard of Leadbelly, he or she's probably heard the Animals' version of "House of the Rising Sun" or Nirvana's take on "Where Did You Sleep Last Night." The Tradition Masters collects these classics along with a number of others recorded for the Stinson label between ...
