This two-fer CD gathers both of folk-rock guitarist Roy Buchanan's first two albums for Polydor Records, ROY BUCHANAN and SECOND ALBUM, including "I Am A Lonesome Fugitive" and "She Once Lived Here."
Roy Buchanan's SECOND ALBUM is more cohesive and, in general, provides a better showcase for the guitarist's dazzling chops than did his first studio album. With a solid emphasis on blues material, SECOND ALBUM delivers track after track of Buch's sizzling instrumental work. His fluid lines--which range from sensitive, meticulously crafted melodies to frenetic, high-necked wailing--fly from his Telecaster with seeming liquidity while his unique, tone-clean (yet manipulated with volume knobs) deft fingering prove he is no average axeslinger.
Roy's band, which includes most of the same members as SECOND's predecessor, provide no-nonsense backing throughout, with fewer tracks featuring the vocals of Chuck Tilley in favor of straightforward instrumentals. Highlights include "After Hours," and Buchanan's own compositions "Filthy Teddy," "Five String Blues," and the smoking slide workout "Tribute To Elmore James." Fans of this unjustly under-recognized guitarist will find much to appreciate here.
Re-issue of two original 70's Polydor albums by the late great American guitar hero, featuring definitive versions of 'Sweet Dreams', 'Lonesome Fugitive', 'The Messiah Will Come Again', and many other great tracks.

3 Stars for first album, 5 Stars for the second I've searched for Roy Buchanan's Second Album for some time. Second Album is a great piece of guitar work by the era's best unknown guitarist. The first eight tracks (his first album) is interesting but not the quality of the Second. (A little too much in the country style for my taste).
If you were there in the 70's (or sort of there) and liked Roy's Second Album, be assured it has stood the test of time. It is worth buying this CD even if you don't particularly like the first album. For those who know Roy's work but not his Second Album, buy this - you won't be disappointed. The master was on his game for the Second Album. Few, if any others of his tine could match his riffs.

guitar man If you like guitar masters, Roy is one of them. I bought this album in 1972 and I still play it. It is the sole reason I bought a used Gibson Melodymaker and joined J.T. and the All-Stars in college. No one has more command of so many different styles of music than Roy. This album is a classic.
