Genesis Files
$5.19 Planet P Project, known originally as simply Planet P, is the studio brainchild of producer Peter Hauke, and an American expatriate living in Germany, Tony Carey, who had played for a while with Deep Purple. Carey wrote all of the songs and played various instruments on the band's 1983 debut album Planet P Project. The music is layered in synthesizers and has a decidedly dated feel to it, while Carey's lyrics tend toward bleak expressions of isolation. ...

| | Beach Boys All Summer Long CD (1964) (Import) Japan; Limited Edition; Mini LP Sleeve
Genesis Files
$30.75 Limited edition remastered Japanese issue; features miniaturized LP sleeve art.
Though The Beach Boys had big hits previously with "Surfer Girl" and "Fun Fun Fun," the sustained number one success of 1964's "I Get Around" established the Californian group as America's best hope against the Beatles' continued dominance of the airwaves. On ALL SUMMER LONG, leader Brian Wilson consolidates his gains. The already elaborate group harmonies grow more lush, the melodies more far-ranging, as Brian's rich falsetto ...

| | Gnac Sevens CD (2000)
Genesis Files
$14.29 So named because it collects the contents of three 7" singles released in 1998, along with a slew of otherwise unavailable tracks, Sevens makes for an agreeably fragile introduction to the band's particular sound. Or more accurately, the person's, given that Mark Tranmer is Gnac as much as Vini Reilly is the Durutti Column -- which actually makes for a perfectly apt comparison. There's definitely a certain something of Reilly's legendary delicacy and subtle beauty echoing throughout Sevens, further emphasized by its instrumental nature. Tranmer is no Reilly clone per se, but there's plenty of wistful atmosphere and haunting reverb regardless of whether a song is performed primarily on guitar or on piano. In that respect, he's also clearly taken with Martin Hannett's production style, though there's a touch more open warmth in the mix, not quite so crisp and punchy. There are also subtle hints of Disco Inferno's inspired subtleties and Piano Magic's ...
