in was shocked when i heard this album I saw this cd being reviewed here on cd universe, i had to hear it for myself. The artwork alone talked me into buying it, so when i finally got it in the mail, i couldnt wait to hear it. It was definitely a 360 to wut i expected. The Twin Beredaz are one of the hardest duos ive ever heard. Coast and Quotakey have two different styles but blend together perfectly like peanut butter and jelly. Their lyrics are ill, no way did i think some cats from texas could spit like that, by the way they are some esses. its a must get. it will be no surprise to me when they get a major deal..... $13.19 After several years in the making Grimm has finally completed the “Brown Recluse”. Because of the patience his fans have shown in waiting for this album to drop, Grimm decided to go ahead and give them a treat by including a second disc chopped and screwed by the Choppaholics of Houston. This double disc CD is a modern day musical masterpiece as only Grimm knows how to bring it. This is evident in its storyline complete with dramatic delivery that separates Grimm from the rest of the pact. With features by SPM, Baby Bash, Lucky Luciano, Quota, Powda, Juan Gotti, Rasheed, and many others it is sure to be ...

| | Richard Thompson You? Me? Us? CDs (1996)
Twin Beredaz
$30.29 YOU? ME? US? includes one acoustic disc and one electric disc.
YOU? ME? US? was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Richard Thompson's studio albums had been running longer and longer, so it wasn't surprising that with You? Me? Us? he went to two discs. But the total running time of the album was 74:09, which could have fit on one disc, especially since two songs, "Razor Dance" and "Hide It Away," were presented in both electric and acoustic versions. But the electric/acoustic dichotomy seemed to be the rationale for the doubling -- Disc 1 was "Voltage Enhanced," Disc 2 "Nude." Given Thompson's loyalty to producers Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake, "Nude" was to be preferred, since there one was not distracted by the team's penchant for jarring junkyard percussion. But the real issues in a Richard Thompson album are the guitar-playing and the songwriting. Here, the guitar-playing, whether electric or acoustic, was typically stellar. The songwriting was less impressive. Of the 17 compositions, "Put It There Pal" was a good example of what Bob Dylan used to call a "finger-pointing song" and "The Ghost in You Walks" (the "nude" song that ended the "voltage enhanced" disc) was a good song of farewell. But much of Thompson's writing was unclear and the rest touched wearyingly on points about romance and death that he had dealt with better before. Thompson remained an accomplished instrumentalist and a talented songwriter, but he seemed to have become prolific without becoming selective. You? Me? Us? came on like a major statement, but came off as inconsistent. ~ William Ruhlmann
On the surface, you? me? us? appears to be a major statement from Richard Thompson. Spread out over two discs, the budget-priced album features 19 tracks, separated into an electric ("Voltage Enhanced") disc and an acoustic ("Nude") disc, which each runs around 40 minutes; "Razor Dance" and "Hide It Away" appear on both discs. Despite its appearance, you? me? us? isn't one of Thompson's major works. What sinks the album isn't the songs -- as always, Thompson has written a handful of gems -- but Mitchell Froom's production. Froom's gauzy, pseudo-experimental approach masks the songs in an impenetrable haze, which neither Thompson's guitar nor his voice can cut through. There is no texture to the album's sound -- it is mushy and colorless, which cuts away at the heart of Thompson's direct, emotional songs. If the songs on you? me? us? were given the simple, direct production they deserve, it would have been a completely different, more compelling experience. As it stands, it's a wildly uneven and unengaging listen, like the great majority of the Froom-produced Richard Thompson records. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Pickin' on R.E.M.: The Bluegrass Tribute features guitarists Dennis Caplinger, Barry Waldrep, and Rick Carter, along with bassist Stan Foster, performing many of R.E.M.'s most recognized songs in a bluegrass style. Though the musicians do take liberties with their covers, the performances aren't enormous departures from the originals. | | Brigitte Fontaine Comme A La Radio CD (1971) (Import) Canada
Twin Beredaz
$25.45 COMME A LA RADIO features vocalist Brigitte Fontaine backed by The Art Ensemble Of Chicago.
Of all the strange records this French vanguard pop chanteuse ever recorded, this 1971 collaboration between the teams of Brigitte Fontaine and her songwriting partner Areski and the Art Ensemble of Chicago -- who were beginning to think about returning to the United States after a two-year stay -- is the strangest and easily most satisfying. While Fontaine's records could be beguiling with their innovation, they occasionally faltered by erring on the side of gimmickry and cuteness. Here, the Art Ensemble provide the perfect mysterious and ethereal backdrop for her vocal explorations. Featuring the entire Art Ensemble of that time period and including fellow Chicago AACM member Leo Smith on second trumpet, Fontaine and Areski stretched the very notion of what pop had been and could be. With strangely charted arrangements and mixing (percussion was in the foreground and horns were muted in the background, squeezed until they sounded like snake-charming flutes), the ten tracks here defy any and all conventions and result in the most provocative popular recording of 1971 -- and that's saying something. For their part, the Art Ensemble hadn't played music this straight since before leaving Chicago, with long, drooping ballad lines contrasted with sharp Eastern figures and North African rhythmic figures built in. The finest example of how well this works, and how seductively weird it all is, is on the two-part "Tanka." Here, Malachi Favors' bass and Areski's percussion meet everything from bouzoukis to clarinets to muted trumpets to sopranino saxophones, courtesy of Joseph Jarman, Roscoe Mitchell, ...
