Street Scene: Kurt Weill DVD (1995)
Guiseppe Sinopoli - Dreampaths of Music: The Two Eyes of Horus DVD for sale Much of America's great art after World War II was created by immigrants who fled war-torn and Nazi-dominated countries. German composer Kurt Weill is one of these, and he has certainly left his original and influential imprint on the American musical. His masterpiece, STREET SCENE, integrates jazz, Blues, spirituals, and Rogers and Hammerstein songs to provide the musical background to a portrayal of 1930's New York tenement life. Based on Elmer Rice's play (which was also turned into an acclaimed 1931 King Vidor film,) this musical considers the rich and difficult lifes of working-class New Yorkers of all different ethnicities. Here, it is performed by the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz under the assured hand of conductor James Holmes.

Femi Kuti Femi Kuti Live at the Shrine DVDs (2005)
Guiseppe Sinopoli - Dreampaths of Music: The Two Eyes of Horus movie Femi Kuti's music is a potent blend of styles that can truly be described as "world music." Drawing on musical phrasings from his African heritage and fusing them with frantic beats drawn from traditional American R&B, Femi follows in his father's (Fela Anikulapo-Kuti) footsteps to further push the Afro-Beat genre forward. LIVE AT THE SHRINE is a joyous way to witness Femi and his band, Positive Force, perform, as they lay down their infectious grooves before a jubilant hometown crowd in Lagos, Nigeria. As well as the 14 live tracks, interviews with Femi describe how he built The Shrine in memory to his late father, and scenes from the streets of Lagos give a flavor of the hardships and abundant spirit of the people who live there. Shot in 2004, the multi-talented Femi weaves his way between sax, keyboards, and vocal duties, while his impressive band conjures up a potent brew of styles behind him. Among the tracks are "1997," a cover of his father's "Water No Get Enemy," and many others.
This unprecedented collection by the Afrobeat legend includes both a concert film/DVD documentary and a live concert CD, singularly conveying the beauty and joy of Afrobeat music. The program takes place in the Kuti family's hometown of Lagos at the Africa Shrine, where every Sunday Femi plays to a packed house of revelers. Femi continues his father's fight, railing against the corrupt Nigerian government and staunchly defending PanAfricanism. The DVD includes 46 minutes of bonus footage, exclusive interview, bonus live performances, music video, and English subtitles. The CD includes 14 audio tracks.
