ALL NIGHT LONG--AN INTRODUCTION, released in 2002, is a tight 11 song catalogue by early prog-metal group Rainbow which includes the songs "Stargazer" and "Stone Cole."
Listeners could easily be fooled into believing that there are several different bands spotlighted on Rainbow's 2002 best-of collection, All Night Long: An Introduction. Starting out as a progressive metal band, then transforming into a radio-friendly rock outfit, and featuring a revolving door of lead vocalists (Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, and Joe Lynn Turner), Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow was a group difficult for the casual fan to grasp. By only including 11 total tracks , All Night Long is far from definitive, and many of the band's most renowned songs are mysteriously absent, including "Man on the Silver Mountain," "Starstruck," "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll," "Since You Been Gone," and "Street of Dreams," among others. A previously unreleased live version of "All Night Long" is obviously included to entice longtime admirers into picking up the disc, but far superior collections such as 1997's The Very Best of Rainbow and 2003's Catch the Rainbow: The Anthology render All Night Long: An Introduction completely useless. ~ Greg Prato
