Prefuse 73 aka Scott Herren is one of Warp's biggest artists with his debut from 2001 selling steady. This release shows a more self-assured creator expanding his palette and honing his craft. This is creative hip hop for the intelligent and curious.
At first listen, the 92 Vs. 02 EP sounds like Prefuse 73 has gone out to pasture and returned with something altogether new -- and was so excited he found it that he had to show everyone by tossing out this 15-minute recording. Leaving behind a bulk of the frantic, chopped-up samples and frenetic beats that adorned the groundbreaking 2001 full-length, Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives, Scott Herren (aka Prefuse 73) goes for a calmer and more collected approach to instrumental hip-hop. The cut-ups are still present, but the samples are warmer and allowed to set forth texture for a stretch further than the full-length -- which is a good thing because no matter how fresh Vocal Studies sounded, it was probably more of a departure point for Herren, and now that he's had the chance to soak it in he has also found some inspiration in an unlikely place. While on a tour stop in Detroit for Vocal Studies, Herren caught wind of a demo from Ann Arbor's Dabrye. Herren quickly became a fan of Dabrye's debut, One/Three, and signed him up for a slot on the Eastern Developments roster (Herren's own label). The result, Instrmntl, is in some ways as close a representation of 92 Vs. 02 as Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives. There's no doubt that this is still a Prefuse 73 production, and a pretty darn good one at that. Albeit, one that is a bit short in length, but tall enough for some good, clean fun. ~ Jack LV Isles

92 vs. 02 Collection CD music
$43.39 GENESIS ARCHIVE #2 contains both studio and live tracks recorded between 1976 and 1992.
Volume One collected work from Genesis' eight-year period with Peter Gabriel. This three CD follow-up collects rarities--studio outtakes, B-sides, remixes, and previously unreleased live tracks--from what the band refers to in the liner notes as their "20 year experiment" with Phil Collins as lead singer (1975-95).
Most of the songs lean toward the band's pop-soul side, although there's a work-in-progress version of "Mama" that (due to its obviously unfinished quality) hints at their earlier, more abstract style. Other highlights include the amusingly titled "Do the Neurotic," which has a great electric 12-string riff and a chugging synth ...

92 vs. 02 Collection songs
$9.89 Taken from Scott Herren's 2003 album, 'One Word Extinguisher'. This new 23 track, 39 minute EP proves that Herren has a reservoir of music flowing through him. Digipak. Warp.
Soon after releasing One Word Extinguisher, his long-awaited second full record as Prefuse 73, Scott Herren delivered another set of recordings to Warp and requested a release. It's easy to see why the label agreed; several of the tracks on this collection of outtakes could have easily made the highlight reel. Besides proving how much talent Scott Herren has sitting around, Extinguished also illustrates that he's a surprisingly good editor. As great as they are, most of these work better on an EP release simply because of their length; ...
| | Radiohead Com Lag (2plus2isfive) CD (2004) Digipak; Extended Play
92 vs. 02 Collection album
$11.35 Useful only to the most devoted Radiohead followers (who will probably have most of the contents to begin with), Com Lag is a patchwork of live material, remixes, B-sides, and other assorted scraps. Naturally, the release isn't nearly as cohesive as Hail to the Thief; its apparent intent is to supply the fans with another stream of the band's recordings, regardless of both how they fit together and how mixed the tracks are to begin with. The B-sides aren't nearly as solid as the ones collected on the Airbag/How Am I Driving EP, not to mention most of the intervening extras that trickled out between that release and this one -- though the live, solo piano version of Amnesiac-era B-side "Fog" is a definite standout, and the likes of "Paperbag Writer," "I Am Citizen Insane," and "Gagging Order" are hardly throwaways.
