"Breathe" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Telepopmusik consists of three French multi-instrumentalists and programmers, Stephan Haeri, Christophe Hetier, and Fabrice Dumont, who create atmospheric, chill-out pop music incorporating odd sound-bites, random raps, and often featuring sultry female vocals, mostly by the Wild Colonials' Angela McCluskey. While similar to Air and Zero 7 on first listen, there's more experimentalism, something a bit duskier about their music. Telepopmusik's sound is almost as if a boozed-up 1950s jazz-standards combo was asked to collaborate with Kraftwerk and Serge Gainsbourg in the seediest of late-night bars.
The title track from GENETIC WORLD breaks down the phrase until it's indecipherable and layers it over an '80s sci-fi movie theme. This follows the sleepy, sensual balladry of the hypnotic dance single "Breathe," McCluskey's Holiday-channeling finest moment. Dirty Beatniks rapper Soda-Pop drops in throughout the record, his strongest point coming when he both produces and languidly raps on "Da Hoola." And, adding to her ever-growing list of guest appearances, indie icon Peaches and frequent collaborator Chilly Gonzales team up with a chilling bass on the infectious "Let's Go Again."
Additional personnel includes: Angela McCluskey, Soda-Pop, Chilly Gonzales, Peaches (vocals); Christophe Minck (harp); Geoffrey Tamisier (trumpet); Pascal Charpentier (piano); Sebastien Buffet (brushes).

Q (4/02, p.122) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...Here's an artist album rendered as chillout mix CD, dipping into hip hop, rock guitars and a variety of ambient electronica..." Alternative Press (8/02, p.84) - 8 out of 10 - "...Fresh rhymes from filthy-and-fly Peaches and Gonzales and Beatnik rapper Soda-Pop, along with warm robotics, futurostic keyboard swirls and midnight-dark ambient soundscapes, thrust the album firmly into the present." CMJ (5/20/02, p.14) - "...A melange of blues, jazz, down-tempo house, hip-hop and robot-pop pieced together perfectly..." Telepopmusik Genetic World Songs Genetic World Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews great music!! i've enjoyed it a lot. Submitted by angcrr (reno, nv) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
had potential I bought this solely on the strength of wanting the single "Breathe". Both the album cut of the song and the re-mix version (the one I believe that is heard on the Mitsubishi 'Outlander' commercial) don't disappoint. However, the rest of the album tries to hard to flow. A majority ofthe cuts rely on a single clever 'hook' to carry the weight of the load. Unfortunately with the 'trance' (or electronica) genre, such attempts at levity are easy too spot. While the album in general is a nice easy listen on occasion, it doesn't seem inspired. One song alone does not make an album ;) Submitted by a reviewer (Rochester, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
mellow mornings I love starting my day with this CD. It's a nice mix of moods and I never tire of it. Very smooth and subtle; chic and clever. Submitted by dkingram2002 (Muncie, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
