Classic German Thrash A good classic german thrash from the 80´s, deep a dark sound in the Destruction´s vein, definitely collector´s piece. Submitted by juanrafam (Medellín, Colombia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
True German Thrash I guess when you think of thrash metal music you think of slayer, metallica, kreator, sodom ECT. However you should also consider necronomicon, darkness and protector for that matter.
This is the first and in my view the best album, think of a cross between sodom and destruction with their own guitar sound.
The CD version unlike the LP version has a killer production, so if you have a taste for the bands that started thrash check this one out.

Necronomicon album
$10.69 Often cited as the first true death metal record ever released (Florida's Death had been around just as long but would only make their vinyl debut a few years later), Possessed's Seven Churches took thrash metal's intensity to new levels of brutality. With song titles like "Burning in Hell," "Satan's Curse," and "The Exorcist" (featuring the famous movie's eerie title theme for an intro), the band definitely displayed a strong Slayer influence; but it was Possessed growler Jeff Becerra who first introduced the barely decipherable grunting vocal style which would epitomize ...

Necronomicon album
$10.39 Voivod's third release, Killing Technology, still has elements of the band's early extreme metal sound, but they show hints of things to come -- namely, more mature and interesting songwriting. All you have to do is listen to the beginning of the appropriately titled "Tornado" to hear the young metal band grind and thrash with the best the '80s had to offer. There are several tracks that stretch past the six-minute mark (the opening title track, "Forgotten in Space," and "This Is Not an Exercise"), but Voivod knows how to hold interest during these extended pieces. The group is comprised of excellent musicians who have no problem whatsoever with the challenging song structures and odd time signatures that arise on Killing ...

| | Wastefall Self Exile CD (2006)
Necronomicon songs
$14.65 Europe, in the '90s and the 21st century, has seen the rise of quite a few progressive metal/power metal artists who long for a bygone era: unapologetically retro headbangers who worship Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Ronnie James Dio as devoutly as they worship Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and ELP -- headbangers who are devoid of alternative metal influences and have no interest in emulating Slipknot, Mushroomhead, or Limp Bizkit even though they are in the same demographic. But Wastefall demonstrate that having a strong interest in both progressive rock and metal does not necessarily mean embracing a totally pre-'90s aesthetic. Self Exile (Wastefall's first album for Sensory and third album overall) is best described as alternative metal with strong prog rock leanings and some power metal appreciation as well; for this Greek outfit, the chug-chug of Pantera, Korn, and Tool is right at home with elements of Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It isn't that Wastefall have nothing in common with someone like Italian prog metal/power metal virtuoso Luca Turilli; if Wastefall vocalist Domenic Papaemmanouil met Turilli, the two of them could no doubt have a nice conversation about the joys of Operation: Mindcrime and Wish You Were Here (another great Pink Floyd album of the '70s). But stylistically, that Pantera/Korn/Tool element separates Wastefall from Turilli and similar artists in a big way, despite the things they have in common. It should be stressed that this CD, for all its intensity, is never an exercise in harshness for the sake of harshness; Wastefall are forceful, but they are also intricate and melodic -- and their melodies tend to be dark and brooding. Self Exile is slightly inconsistent, but only slightly; the material is generally memorable, and Wastefall's potential is strong. ~ Alex Henderson
Who would have believed that Greece has one of the strongest and most fervent markets for heavy metal in the World. Not only is it a required destination for any band touring Europe but many home grown bands achieve attention from fans and the local metal media. It is from this hot bed that Wastefall emerged to create two superb progressive metal albums for the Greek label Sleaszy ...
