Purchase Hit & Run CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Blindside Silence CD (2002)
Hit & Run album
$6.99 In the spirit of South African nu-metallists Seether, who sound for all the world like U.S.-born and bred heavy rockers, comes Blindside, who are from, of all places, Sweden. Sure, Swedish garage-rockers like the Hives had ...
| | Peter Tosh Wanted Dread Or Alive CD (1981) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Hit & Run CD music
$8.85 Lou Marini, Jon Faddis, Lew Soloff (horns); Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums); Iziah "Stick" Thompson, Noel "Scully" Sims (percussion);
Not many singers can sing "I am wanted by the evil forces" without sounding paranoid, but with Peter Tosh, you believe it. By 1982, Peter Tosh had been brutalized by the Jamaican police more than once. His chief crime was speaking out against the forces of oppression in his native land. As the wanted poster on the cover indicates, WANTED DREAD OR ALIVE finds Peter Tosh in a typically combative mode.
The record begins with both guns blazing on the menacing "Coming in Hot." The mood lets up on the uncharacteristically schmaltzy "Nothing But Love," a duet with soul diva Gwen Guthrie, and on the laid-back "Reggae-Mylitis," a sort of dreadlocked cousin of "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu." But in general, this is dark stuff indeed. He inveighs against the wickedness of Babylon on the chilling "Cold Blood" and the crisp, powerful title track. A rock-solid backing group, including the legendary rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, ...
| | Third World Ultimate Collection CD (2001)
Hit & Run music CDs
$10.49 ULTIMATE COLLECTION contains tracks recorded between 1977 and 1997.
Although they achieved their first big break opening for the legendary Bob Marley, Third World always embellished -- some would argue diluted -- their reggae with hefty elements of soul, pop, worldbeat, and R&B. While that infuriated Jamaican purists, it allowed them to achieve worldwide ...

| | Junior Murvin Police & Thieves CD (1977) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Hit & Run album
$9.49 Junior Murvin, along with co-writer/producer Lee Perry, created a certifiable reggae classic in "Police and Thieves." Covered by The Clash and symbolic of its time (the mid-1970s) musically and politically, the song is the centerpiece of an album considered by reggae fans to be one of the greatest albums of the genre.
Murvin sings powerful, intense lyrics with a sweet-sounding falsetto voice (recalling Smokey Robinson), while Lee Perry frames the songs with dark, almost haunted tempos, sharp guitar work and seemingly bottomless reverb. Murvin mixes British/Jamaican angst and fury with gospel fervor, and the tunes stick with you long after the CD stops.
This is one of those albums that winds up on ...

| | Donovan Gift From A Flower To A Garden (Bgo) CD (1967) (Import) United Kingdom
Hit & Run music CDs
$19.15 Recorded around the time that Donovan studied meditation with the Beatles in India under the tutelage of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, A GIFT FROM A FLOWER TO A GARDEN is an ambitious 22-track double album. (In fact, it's one of the first two-LP sets in pop/rock history.) While the album offers more of the whimsical psychedelia first put forth by the Scottish singer/songwriter on 1966's SUNSHINE SUPERMAN, Donovan opts for a gentler, more thoughtful approach to both the music and lyrics. Oddly enough, it was also around this time that he publicly turned his back on drug use.
The ...
| | James Reyne ... & The Horse You Rode In On CD (2005) (Import) Bonus Track
Hit & Run songs
$30.19 As if in response to the hard edge of Speedboats for Breakfast, James Reyne assembled some of his best catalog selections for acoustic reworkings on And the Horse You Rode in On. The songs are produced in such a way as to spotlight his inimitable voice. Most of the songs are done strictly acoustically -- with just Reyne and a guitar -- though some are given different arrangements ("One More River" has been given an almost reggae beat, while "Any Day Above Ground" has an ironically funereal dirge about it). There are a couple of new tracks ("The Euphonious Whale," "How to Make Gravy") and a smattering of reworked hits ("Hammerhead," "Reckless," ...
| | Relay Prehension CD (2006)
Hit & Run album
$6.39 Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Relay's style would remind you if Sun Ra, Stevie Wonder and Parliament were a beat production team.Comfortable with using original playing but also unthreatened by using samples , flipping them up in different ways for sonic diversity.Creating original compositions much like a college artist can cut and paste magazine clippings into a masterpiece of Picasso proportions-not confined to merely looping samples... With influences like Madlib, DJ Krush, and RZA- Relay takes a conceptual approach to hip hop tracks and looks for outside influences that can be flipped to his own style. "I like conceptual albums and themes ...
