| | '70S Sound, Vol. 1 CD
Flashback, a budget-line division of Rhino, released a three-disc series titled The '70s Sound in 2004. The series is more likely to be helpful to wedding DJs in a bind than the average music fan. Each volume features ten tracks, all of which were hits, though the selection process appears to have been fairly random. And, unfortunately, the disco hits are present as three-minute radio edits that are inferior to their album-mix or 12" counterparts. '70s Sound, Vol. 1 features Dr. John's "Right Place, Wrong Time," Lobo's "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo," Todd Rundgren's "I Saw the Light," Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky," and the Spinners' "The Rubberband Man." ~ Andy Kellman

With Queen officially enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Hollywood Records reintroduces the band yet again with the release of GREATEST HITS I, II & III. While Volumes I and II are full of Queen classics you already know by heart, the third cobbles together odds and sods from the far corners of Queen's canon along with solo cuts from Freddie Mercury and Brian May.
Opening with the operatic rock classic "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's easy to hear not only how this British quartet achieved the kind of global acclaim that ensured they'd be enshrined alongside the likes of the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. When they weren't ...
| | Michael Jackson Thriller CD (1982) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
'70S Sound, Vol. 1 songs
$5.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a ...
| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
'70S Sound, Vol. 1 album
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious ...

It's always a sign that a group is hot if they release a holiday album mere months after their debut. That's the case with *NSYNC. Their debut was released in America in late March, and in early December, Home for Christmas hit the shelves. Much of the album is devoted to newer material, with only a handful of songs qualifying as standards: "The Christmas Song," ...

| | Susanne Band Vogt Big Noise CD (2003)
'70S Sound, Vol. 1 album
$17.75 "Big Noise" by Germany's premiere vocalist, Susanne Vogt, is an affectionate tribute to her endearing connection with New York City. With this CD, Susanne transforms her talent as a student of her Big Apple influences into lessons for aspiring performers. In contrast to her previous intimate duo recording, "When I've got the Moon" with Woody Mann, Susanne obviously relishes the support of her larger ensemble. "Big Noise" takes you around a musical circle opening with the help of Klaus Wenderoth's funky organ solo on "Coffee" and ending with a simple rendering of a swaying melody, "Lullaby for Lora." "Day by dayTrying to shake you of my memoryBut at night You creep into my dreams." Susanne's lyrics are emblematic of a listener's experience after hearing her music. Subtly, by design, her mixture of cleverly ...

'70S Sound, Vol. 1 album
$13.99 All of the music from two former LPs by cornetist Jim Cullum from 1976-1977 are reissued on this single CD. Jim Cullum, Jr., had taken over the Happy Jazz Band from his father, clarinetist Jim Cullum, Sr., upon the latter's death in 1973. The first half of this two-fer has Cullum and his sextet sounding fine in 1976 although some of the frameworks and arrangements seem a little stiff. There are some good moments along the way, as one would expect from a frontline of Cullum, Randy Reinhart ...
