Anita O'Day Incomparable! Songs Incomparable! Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) YES – ANITA O’DAY IS “INCOMPARABLE! Bill Holman’s arrangements, selecting musicians, and conducting abilities allows Anita O’Day to demonstrate her big band artistic abilities. This is session is a true listening pleasure. Importantly, are the great musicians making up each section and their tight section work and soloing abilities. Lastly, the re-mastering and stereo engineering are critical for this CD’s quality. FIVE stars for the great job. Submitted by jb (Gettysburg, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great O'Day - Great Holman I don't know how I missed this when first released on vinyl, but it was a pleasant discovery on cd! A wonderful album with an all star big band and the expected outstanding Holman charts. Anita is , well Anita. Great tunes, great interpretations. Wonderful soloist - dig Bill Perkins on Indian Summer and Mel Lewis in his element.

Incomparable! Indeed. This album represents the finest of Anita's Verve sessions (they're ALL essential for any serious collector) and a rarity - as it was so long out-of-print - remastered now in a limited edition. One of the greatest of jazz singers, Anita O'Day can also be one of the most erratic. When she's on, O'Day is a brilliant improviser, endlessly creative yet shrewdly paring away any extra-musical excess that might obscure her interpretations. On the occasional off day, O'Day's famous vibrato-less instrument would fail her pitchwise. Ever the unromantic "hip chick," her unconvincing ballads can then be mired in low-energy bathos.
