"A Dios Le Pido" won the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.
UN DIA NORMAL won the 2003 Latin Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and won for Best Rock Solo Vocal Album. "Es Por Ti" won for Record Of The Year and for Song Of The Year. "Mala Gente" won for Best Rock Song. The album was also nominated for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.
Refusing to play the Latin pop crossover game, Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes returns with UN DIA NORMAL, a second solo album sung entirely in Spanish that manages to kick the idea of sophomore jinx square in the jewels. Teaming up with Rock En Espanol production kingpin Gustavo Santaolalla, the former Ekhymosis frontman delivers a pleasing fusion of folkloric and contemporary pop-rock nuances ranging from the jangly nugget "Desde Que Despierto" and rock steady cadence of "La Paga" to the crisply delivered vallenato "Luna." Other highlights include the crisp shuffle "Luna," bossa-nova-kissed "Es Por Ti," and infectious cumbia-infused "A Dios Le Pido" (which earned Juanes a Latin Grammy for Best Rock Song).
About the only concession Juanes makes to courting crossover success is "Fotografia," a ballad with Nelly Furtado, a native Portuguese speaker who does well in switching gears to sing in Spanish. With Juanes drawing from such a broad palette of music, UN DIA NORMAL expands the boundaries of Rock En Espanol to the point where these kinds of varied approaches will hopefully someday be the norm.

Welcome to the UK The first time I heard this album my sister and I were driving through the tree canopied winding roads of Cornwall. She mentioned an artist she had come across whilst travelling in Central America, reached for a tape and proceeded to press play.
Now, my spanish is hazy at best but this, I found out, did not matter at all. There are only a few times in my life when I can remember forgetting to breathe because there was something more vital to the moment I was in. This was one. His voice, the melodies, the guitar, the feelings aroused. There is nothing better in this life than hearing or seeing something amazing for the first time. It can be a person, a work of art, a passage from a book or a piece of music. From the opening bars of the first track I knew this was going to be a brilliant album and I was not disappointed.
It owns the feeling of when you walk out the cinema after seeing a movie that leaves you feeling taller and happier than when you walked through the doors. Actually, some of the tracks make for stunning soundtrack additions.
I love rock music, I love classical and I love latino because all three make you want to live your dream and to do it whilst your dancing.
My favourite tracks are A Dios le Pido, La Unica, La Historia de Juan and La Noche. When you hear them you'll understand why.
To anyone looking for inspiration or simply brilliant music - I hope you hear this man. Submitted by a reviewer (London, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A must have! Juanes is the next big latin pop star, coming up behind Enrique and Marc Anthony. I can't wait until he crosses over into english mainstream top 40. I am addicted to the first two songs on this album, and the rest are equally as pleasing. Submitted by a reviewer (Manchester, NH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
