| | 2002 Warped Tour Compilation CD (2 Customer Reviews)
Amazing low price 2 CD set! Official soundtrack for the 2002 Vans Warped Tour featuring 50 unreleased and out of print tracks from the biggest names in rock, including Thursday, Alkaline Trio, Sum 41, NOFX, Something Corporate, The Ataris, New Found Glory, Finch, Death By Stereo, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Flogging Molly, Lagwagon, Bouncing Souls and many more.
In keeping with the unified, inclusive spirit of the phenomenally successful Warped Tour, its companion disc includes tracks from all the stages and every band, big and small. So while heavyweights like NOFX and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones turn in tracks, there are also great songs from up-and-comers like Tsunami Bomb ("Not Forever"), Midtown ("Become What You Hate"), and Madcap ("These Old Feelings"). Also, in keeping with the skateboard nation's embrace of poppy punk revivalism, modern-day hardcore, and ska-inflected amalgams of both, the 50 tracks here travel liberally among genres, juxtaposing melodious, pogoing numbers with gruff, working-class anthems. On the whole, the set is a fabulous document of a summer tour that's come to define, support, and encourage an entire movement of music, youth, and commerce. ~ Johnny Loftus Compiled to promote the yearly Warped Tour, this compilation offers 50 bands that will be appearing at the 2002 edition of the festival. Offering everything from classic skacore (the Mighty Mighty Bosstones) to poppy indie rock (Ozma), this album does an excellent job of displaying the variety of artists in the lineup. What makes it work well is that the songs chosen are mostly short and concise examples of the artist's work, so the listener literally gets a small taste of just about everything. Plus, there are some really great bands on here, including classic hardcore heroes Murphy's Law, snot-nosed rockers the Swingin' Utters, Celtic punk revivalists Flogging Molly, exuberant emo specialists Autopilot Off, and many others. With a tight track selection and a good grouping of bands, Warped Tour: 2002 Compilation is a great way to gauge how interested the listener would be in the tour. ~ Bradley Torreano The Warped Tour has become a vitally important part of modern punk rock culture, as each years finds another batch of great contemporary punk bands reaching thousands of listeners across the country. The sonic document of the 2002 tour makes it plain why Warped has proven to be such a successful phenomenon. The bands range from commercially successful, relatively big new bands (Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Good Charlotte) to old-school flag-bearers/cult heroes (Murphy's Law, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones), and more obscure (at least to mainstream ears) artists like Destruction Made Simple, Divit, and Against All Authority. The one thing that binds all these groups together is their adherence both to punk's fast-loud-short verities and a commitment to tight dynamics and catchy, melodic songcraft. In keeping with the unified, inclusive spirit of the phenomenally successful Warped Tour, its companion disc includes tracks from all the stages and every band, big and small.
