Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Trees, Bloodlet's triumphant return to the metalcore genre they once championed is an epic release that somehow finds the band elevating their animalistic brutality to unheard-of levels. Seething with blatant hostility, Bloodlet has outdone themselves at creating an album that is the epitome of "evilcore," leaving in its wake a senseless trail of destruction, most notably the listener's ravaged ears after hearing Three Humid Nights.... Vocalist Scott Angelacos drifts from restrained screams to quirky singing that draws from the legendary Mike Patton. The production quality is muddy and rough, yet while this proves to be a mild distraction, it also captures a side of Bloodlet yet to be heard. This gritty sound enhances the songs, making each seem much more dangerous. "Learn to Fly: Descent" brings to mind old Clutch, as it is similar in structure to the group's song "Binge and Purge," yet is definitely much fiercer in tone. All in all, Bloodlet has returned in a large way, possibly delivering their best album to date. ~ Jason D. Taylor

Ever wonder what happens when five righteous headbangers pile into a New Orleans garage with a lot of beverages and, as they say, "a mission"? Wonder no more, and look no further than NOLA. As Pepper Keenan (who also plays guitar in Corrosion Of Conformity) tells it, that's how Down was born. He was just off a tour, and hooked up with his pal Philip (Pantera) Anselmo. One thing led to another, and by the time they and the rest of the guys stumbled out of that garage, what was now Down had laid the basic tracks for three of the songs on this incendiary debut, including the opening jam, "Temptation's Wings."

After the platter full of instrumentals featured on And Now the Anita Kerr Orchestra (1966), the multi-talented first lady of the Nashville studio scene returned to scoring songs for and contributing to the Anita Kerr Singers. Although Slightly Baroque (1966) could have referred to her financial situation after the less than enthusiastic sales of And Now, instead it alludes to the style in which the dozen pop selections on the album are arranged. As noted music journalist Colin Escott mentions in his liner notes to the 2007 Collectors' Choice Music CD reissue of Slightly Baroque, it had only been a year earlier that The Baroque Beatles Book (1965) was released, which took then-current hits from the Fab Four and turned them into classically tinged masterworks. Here, Kerr has primarily chosen more seasoned pop standards to give her unique "Baroque" treatment.
