(19 Customer Reviews)
There are certain verities in life that one can count on; the chilly winds of winter, the sizzling sun of summer, and the soothing sounds of Boyz II Men. These guys pretty much wrote the book on smooth, harmony-based soul in the post-Philly International era. For better or worse, they created the template a thousand boy bands, both black and white, would follow to overstuffed bank accounts. FULL CIRCLE finds the Boyz (who by 2002 were fully fledged men) playing to their strengths. There are no attempts here to play catch-up with any of the R&B stars that came on the scene since the Boyz first made their big splash. Though Faith Evans and Rob Jackson make guest appearances, and there is the occasional dollop of hip-hop flavor added to the arrangements, the overall approach here is quite rightly one of slow, romantic ballads full of elegant, melodic hooks and lushly harmonized vocals. Those who've been following Boyz II Men from the start won't be put off by what they find here, and those just arriving to the party will doubtless be intrigued as well; perhaps that's what they mean by FULL CIRCLE.

| | Daddy G DJ-Kicks CD (2004) (Import) Germany
Full Circle songs
$13.69 After a decade and a half, Daddy G finally stepped out of the shadow of Massive Attack for his solo debut release, a mix album entry in the long-running DJ-Kicks series. It's a good move for G. He's ensured plenty of exposure with this release, given the high-quality reputation of the series, and it gives him a chance to showcase whatever sort of personal style he brought to Massive Attack. Judging by this 17-track mix, his personal style is a fairly eclectic one, as his mix veers all over the place yet surprisingly flows quite well. There's a particular emphasis on reggae, which serves as the backbone of the mix. Occasionally G veers off into something unexpected, such as when he drops the Meters' "Just Kissed My Baby" or Foxy Brown's "Oh Yeah," ...
| | Ananda Project Relight CDs (2005)
Full Circle album
$15.79 Just as Chris Brann followed up his debut album, Release, with a remix collection, Re-Release, he followed up his second album, Morning Light, with Relight, a seamlessly mixed collection of remixes from that album that comes with an accompanying bonus disc of yet more remixes, these dating from between 1998 and 2005. All of this amounts to a whopping 22 tracks of Ananda Project, almost of all of which, amazingly, are on a par with Brann's standard output, if more inclined toward dancefloor play. For that reason, those who prefer his up-tempo house work over his more chilled-out album-listening work will savor the first disc of Relight, as it plays like a standard DJ mix, albeit one of nothing but Ananda Project tracks and one that lets the tracks play out to near-end before a quick fade (that is, DJ mixing that emphasizes the tracks, not the mixing itself). A few of the tracks are previously unreleased, including the back-to-back run of "Wasting My Love" and "Everything You Are (Atlanta Rising)," which gets the mix going in high gear early on and gives Relight some distinction from its source album. Moreover, a few of the tracks on the first disc are outsourced mixes, by Gabriel Rene (as Aquanote), DJ Spinna, and Eric Kupper, though these producers don't depart too far from the Ananda Project style. The second disc is likewise mixed DJ-style, and is a bit more eclectic. A couple of the mixes here are previously unreleased, ...
