| | Augustus Pablo East Of The River Nile CD Augustus Pablo Discography of CDs
A physically frail and somewhat gossamer-looking Rastaman, Augustus Pablo was the unlikeliest of reggae pioneers. Armed only with a humble melodica and a mystical, Far Eastern-influenced sound, Pablo (born Horace Swaby) revolutionized roots reggae and dub, both as an instrumentalist and behind the mixing desk as a producer. EAST OF THE RIVER NILE, his first self-produced instrumental set, appeared in 1978 at the dawn of the dancehall era. While the album's pure, meditative vibes focus on Eastern themes and Rastafarian spirituality, a fine show of meat-and-potatoes roots musicianship is provided by members of the legendary groups the Wailers and the Upsetters.
The best of the pure instrumental albums in Pablo's catalog, East of the River Nile finds the melodica master stretching out on various keyboards and strings as well on earthy, meditative tracks like "Chant to King Selassie I," "Jah Light," and "Natural Way." Though this is explicitly a non-dub occasion, "Natural Way" does get its own version with "Nature Dub." [Also available in a remastered edition featuring six bonus tracks.] ~ John Bush

$9.65 In late 1999, the Dutch label KonKurrent invited Minneapolis band Low into an in-house studio to record one of the label's near-legendary In the Fishtank sessions; bands have two days to record between 20-30 minutes of all new material of their choosing. Also touring at the time were Low's pals, the Australian ...

East Of The River Nile music CDs
$9.89 On A Few Miles from Memphis, recorded by pianist Harold Mabern in 1968, he's joined by tenors George Coleman and Buddy Terry, bassist Bill Lee, and drummer Walter Perkins for a bluesy, rhythm-filled set featuring familiar fare like "A Treat for Bea" and fun originals like "Walkin' Back." There's also the odd inclusion of "There's a Kind of Hush," a pop song that comes out sounding like an old standard here. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford Jr.

East Of The River Nile songs
$14.29 Bronx-born rapper Kool Keith has celebrated a more tumultuous career than perhaps any other rapper as prolific as he is, riding career ups and downs that have included stints on major labels and incarceration in mental facilities. But there's no mistaking the former Ultramagnetic MCs frontman in terms of his influence on underground hip-hop. Returning to the personality he co-created in 1996 (with original collaborator Dan "The Automator" Nakamura nowhere to be found), Keith presents the long-awaited second Dr. Octagon album, largely with long-time producer and DJ Kut Masta Kurt.
And with the barrage of different albums he's released in the interim, THE RETURN OF DR. OCTAGON delivers, as promised, a wholly new chapter in the saga of Keith's career. Relying on largely digital production, jumpy backing tracks, and a futuristic ...
