| | Kitty Wells 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD Kitty Wells Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Recorded between 1952 & 1965. Includes liner notes by Joseph F. Laredo.
20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Kitty Wells is a decent primer of her best years with Decca, collecting such definitive singles as "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," "Makin' Believe," "Heartbreak U.S.A.," "Mommy for a Day," and "Release Me." Tracks like "Will Your Lawyer Talk to God" reflect the strong, proto-feminist feeling of her work, which not only influenced further generations of female country artists but also echoed the sentiments of many women in the '50s and '60s. At only a dozen tracks long, 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Kitty Wells is no match for the Bear Family box or even more extensive single-disc collections like God's Honky Tonk Angel, but it's a concise collection of songs from country music's first queen. ~ Heather Phares

| | B B King Mr. Blues/Confessin' The Blues CD (2005) (Import) Remastered; United Kingdom
20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection
$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was a haphazard start for King with the contents taken from three different recording sessions in a 13-month period (March 1, 1962 through April 11, 1963). Based on the results, the artist was being presented as a blues shouter, supported by an antiquated big band and/or orchestra. Arguably the best of the lot ...
| | Brooks & Dunn Greatest Hits Collection CD (1997)
20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection
$9.99 A greatest hits collection is almost a redundancy for this chart-topping contemporary country duo, since nearly everything they touch turns to gold (if not platinum). Nevertheless, this compilation condenses the band's catalog, including three brand new tracks, into 19 sparkling gems of country-pop, bound to please both longtime fans and curious first-timers. They're all here, from the band's stellar cover of the pop hit "My Maria" to beer-swiggin' jukebox faves like "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and "Honky Tonk Truth."
What comes across most strongly on this album is the consistency of Brooks and Dunn's work, as it moves from house-rockin' uptempo numbers to sentimental ballads without losing a step. Every track features top-notch ...
