Healing Is Difficult
$12.65 What do you get when you combine a producer/electronics whiz who's worked with Madonna, Bjork, and Seal, and a distinctive, charming female singer? Judging from the results of Frou Frou's debut album details, you get a duo capable of combining complex, arresting sonic vistas with very organic, intimate vocals to fine effect. From the dreamy, hypnotic quality of the opening track "Let Go" to the airy, Beth Orton-like "Hear Me Out," Guy Sigsworth consistently manages to find just ...
| | Stooges Heavy Liquid CDs (2005) (Import) United Kingdom
Healing Is Difficult
$65.29 Is it possible that someone was following the Stooges around circa 1972-1973, taping their every move? It certainly seems that way, as evidenced by the overabundance of outtakes and demos that has surfaced from the group's Raw Power period. The most exhaustive collection to focus on these tracks arrived in 2005 -- the six-disc box Heavy Liquid. Set up similarly to a previous Stooges box set, Rhino Handmade's 2000 release 1970: The Complete Funhouse Sessions, this is not six discs worth of different rare songs, but rather songs that are repeated over and over again. And unless you're the biggest Stooges fanatic in the universe, there's simply no way you can sit through 13 takes of "I Got a Right." Longtime Stooges fans will undoubtedly be long familiar with most of these selections, as they've been included an countless compilations over the years (mostly on the Bomp! label) -- the aforementioned "I Got a Right," "I'm Sick of You," "Johanna," "Open Up and Bleed," "I Got Nothin'," "Head On," etc. There's not much here that most of the Stooges faithful ...
| | Sia Colour The Small One CD (2004)
Healing Is Difficult
$11.39 On her first internationally released album, COLOUR THE SMALL ONE, Australian singer Sia Furler presents a graceful and assured set that is rooted in chilled-out electronica. This may come as no surprise to fans of Sia's work with Zero 7, though instead of attempting to re-create that group's lounge/jazz sound, she opts for a gentle, folk-tinged vibe, even enlisting Beck for a writing assist on "The Bully," a breezy, though slightly ominous, ...

Healing Is Difficult
$13.15 "Negra" is the nickname given to Karin Stein by her friends and followers in Latin America. The terms "negra" or "negro" are widely used as endearments in many parts of Latin America, regardless of a person's actual skin color. Karin Stein is a Colombian musican who used to perform as a soloist but now only performs with "Calle Sur" (www.callesur.com) or "Los Llaneros" (www.losllaneros.com).Here is Calle Sur's biography:Calle Sur is what happens when you combine man and woman, Black and White, urban and rural. Hearing Calle Sur gives you that gorgeous feeling that something just left you breathless and tingling, but you can't say exactly why. Seeing Calle Sur is living proof that the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" can't be summarized. Ed East is Panamanian. His upbringing in Panama City meant noise, hustle, bustle, and those chaotic smells and sights so characteristic of any Third World metropolis. It also meant a fierce need for individuality and lots of musical innovation and creativity, as expressed in the work of his compatriot, Ruben Blades. Karin Stein, his Colombian partner, brings to the music of Calle Sur the perspective of her rural upbringing. Very rural, that is. She is a cowgirl from the eastern Llanos or plains of Colombia. No kidding. While he rode buses and watched TV, she rode horses and watched the red ibis stalk across emerald green rice fields. There was no TV in her neck of the woods. No electricity for that matter. Only a small transistor radio which sometimes worked, and from which she gleaned tidbits of an outer world. His veins were filled with the fusion of world beats converging in a big city. Her soul harbored haunting cowboy tunes from her traditional Llanero culture, a fascinating people whose music remains one of Latin America's best kept secrets. Calle Sur, now based in the USA, performs wherever their music takes them: New York, Colorado, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Romania. They have composed the film score for three documentaries, some of them aired worldwide. Recently, one ...
| | Sorgente First & Then ?! CD (2008) (Import)
Healing Is Difficult
$12.99 SORGENTEâThe Groove ConnectionâYou donât search for groove, you one day just find it. Or rather: it finds you, graps you, turns you âround and upside down and never let you go again. That is exactly what happened to six young musicians from Munich. Being a pure acoustic band at the beginning, they created and perfected a sound during the last three years that seems not only to unite influences from the last 40 years, but captivates especially with the omnipresent and already mentioned GROOVE, moreover an incredible love and creativity in realizing their very special visions of sound. The Italian word âSorgenteâ means source; and from such a source the band seems to draw inexhaustibly when brewing their very own magic potion to revive and excite themselves as well as their audience. This sound can be localized somewhere between the Caribbeanâs capitals Kingston and Havanna, the swinging London of the late 1960ies and George Clintonâs 70ies âChocolate Cityâ of Detroit.Lovingly and virtouosly arranged harmony soul-choirs groove along with Reggae-Latin beats and spray Carribean lust for life and warmth; hard hitting Funk meets with sixties & seventies rock elements and is refined with World Music elements just to, finally, melt into songs that float ...
