Original score composed by Danny Elfmann. SPIDER-MAN was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Score Soundtrack Album For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media. Audio Mixer: Dennis Sands. Recording information: Scoring Stage. Criticized by some as being merely functional, Danny Elfman's intricate, propulsive music for Spider-Man delivers a richly detailed soundscape that proves even more intricate with repeat listenings. Elfman's brief motifs for Peter Parker and the Green Goblin propel the score, dancing around each other as the album progresses. Punctuated throughout with pulsing, rhythmic undertones, the action sequences bristle with energy, from the driving percussion and electric guitars of "Costume Montage" to the sheer orchestral fireworks of "Final Confrontation." While Elfman's music for the romantic aspects of the story gets short shrift on this CD, a decent balance is maintained, creating an album that's heavier on the action material without being overburdened. Elfman created a score that works perfectly in the film and also gets a strong presentation on disc. Avoid the dreadful "songs from and inspired by" soundtrack CD; Elfman's album of spider-music really scores. ~ Neil Shurley Sure, the SPIDER-MAN soundtrack album laden with aggressive, testosterone-filled heavy rock songs, moved all the units, and got all the media attention, but how about giving some props to Danny Elfman's inventive score as well? After all, it's not easy figuring out how to orchestrate Peter Parker's web-slinging adventures and superhero shenanigans. In response to this challenge, Elfman cleverly shied away from the quirky, creepy style he's employed in the past for directors like Tim Burton. Instead, he chose to play it straight, and this score album is filled with relatively conventional orchestral film music in the grand old style. Other than "Costume Montage," which makes use of some scratchy electric guitar and percolating beats, there's nothing here that would seem out of place on, say, a John Williams score. Sure, this terrific soundtrack from the 1981 animated cult favorite features heavy metal and hard rock numbers. But the title refers to National Lampoon's sci-fi/fantasy magazine on which the film is based. Musically, Heavy Metal offers more than the title suggests, and the songs fit perfectly with their respective film segments. Heavy Metal was originally a double album, ...

$11.99 Audio Mixer: Jon Gass. The original soundtrack to Bruce Paltrow's karaoke drama Duets follows up on the film's premise, collecting the actors' performances of pop favorites. Huey Lewis' "Feelin' Alright," Maria Bello's "I Can't Make You Love Me," and John Pinette's "Copacabana" may not equal the original versions, but they're still entertaining enough in the album's context. Similarly, Gwyneth Paltrow's duets with Babyface ("Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)") and Lewis ("Cruisin'") are as interesting for ...
