This fourth installment in Hed Kandi's Back to Love series continues to channel the spirit of the same-named late-'80s London club night. As with the other volumes, there are some anachronous selections, but they all go along with the remainder of the tracks just fine. There's a nice balance between house and hip-hop, with the best cuts coming from Eric B & Rakim ("I Know You Got Soul"), Stetsasonic ("Talkin' All That Jazz"), Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock ("It Takes Two"), Todd Terry (his version of Phreek's "Weekend"), Soul II Soul ("Keep on Movin'"), and Cheryl Lynn ("Got to Be Real," a disco-era staple). The quality level with the selections is much higher on these discs than they are on Hed Kandi's other multi-volume series. ~ Andy Kellman
The fouth volume of the popular, expertly assembled series of collections of the best dance love songs, including Nightcrawlers "Push The Feeling On", Shawn Christopher's "Don't Lose The Magic" and Donna Giles rousing rendition of the Dreamgirls theme "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and many more. | | Django Reinhardt In Solitaire: Complete Recordings For Solo Guitar CD (2005)
Hed Kandi: Back To Love 4 album
$8.89 Poetically speaking, an entire album of unaccompanied guitar solos by Django Reinhardt seems roughly commensurate with the earth's magnetic field, its inner and outer atmosphere, the atomic weight of the sun and all of the elements in the periodic table, in addition to a few more that haven't yet divulged themselves. This is elemental stuff. It borders on the cosmic. Django Reinhardt's solo guitar recordings pop up here and there like will-o-the-wisps or Red Dwarves across the sky chart of his panoramically extended discography. Gathered together in one album for the very first time are 15 solos recorded between 1937 and 1950 in Paris, London, Chicago, and Rome. Some were waxed as warm-ups in recording studios, others were committed to acetates for radio broadcast purposes; one "Improvisation" was recorded live at Chicago's Civic Opera House while two extended pieces ("Belleville" and "Nuages") were intended for use as the soundtrack to a film that was never completed. For the closing track the producers stepped away from the otherwise immaculate ...
| | Ugly Duckling Bang For The Buck CD (2006) (Import) United Kingdom
Hed Kandi: Back To Love 4 CD music
$26.29 Southern California hip-hop group Ugly Duckling has never been concerned with tackling serious issues. They're just three guys who like music and like to have fun, which is exactly what is shown in Bang for the Buck. Their songs don't attempt to address social problems or political situations (the closest they come to this is in "The End of Time," which vaguely deals with ideas of eternity); instead, they're just about celebrating themselves, their rhymes, and history as a group. Ugly Duckling as a band is as much of a theme on the record as the meatshake was on Taste the Secret. They rhyme about their inception on "Yudee," the skills of the DJ (who also gets to do a bit of his own showing off) on "Einstein's on Stage," and the skills of the two MCs on pretty much every other track, including the "battle" between them on "Andy vs. Dizzy" (whose winner is never quite determined). It all comes across as lighthearted, however, as if even though they're constantly saying that they're the best out there, they really know that they're not; all that they are certain of is that they're the ones having the best time. A lot of this has to do with the beats that Young Einstein lays out, a West Coast blend (and very much in the vein of J5) of funky horns and organs, loose drum tracks with just enough bass, scratches, and sampled voices, all of which are so catchy and fun that it's impossible to not enjoy listening to Ugly Duckling strut around, even when they occasionally ...

Besides the great teamwork displayed, the fans & supporting local artists that show up to support the shows make for unforgettable events." - Rob Jackson, Rip Star Records, from amp3.org "There is enough here to see that this band clearly has it together. I can't say this band sounds like anyone I can think of. Pretty original, cool sounding... I like the vocalist, his voice is gentle & soothing & the harmonies sound cool. The choruses are done very well, at times in the 'shakey octave' style. I could definately listen to you guys." - garageband The guys & gal of The 37 Burnett ...
