Burgess Meredith, Claire Bloom, Harry Hamlin, Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith, Ursula Andress - Director: Desmond Davis Full of pride, Cassiopeia compares her daughter's beauty to that of Hera. Angered, the queen of the gods has Poseidon unleash the monstrous beast Craken to destroy their village unless Cassiopeia's daughter, Andromeda, is sacrificed. Perseus, the son of Zeus, becomes enchanted with the breathtaking beauty and is determined to save her from this fate. The young hero, armed with a magical shield, a winged stallion and a mechanical owl, discovers the only way to defeat the monster is with the head of Medusa. The gods watch and intervene on Perseus' quest to save his beloved.
This was legendary special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen's last film before he retired from creating movie magic. L.A. LAW's Harry Hamlin stars as the Greek mythological hero Perseus who fights snake-haired Medusa and two-headed dogs to save the lovely Andromeda (Judi Bowker). Laurence Olivier, as Zeus, is one of the many screen legends in this adventure. Burgess Meredith, Claire Bloom, Maggie Smith and Ursula Andress round out the cast as the Gods of Mount Olympus.
Director Desmond Davis was camera operator on TOM JONES and A TASTE OF HONEY, two influential early 1960s British films. Writer Beverly Cross was one of the writers on 1963's Ray Harryhausen film, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. Clash Of The Titans Movie Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Make believe Greek Mythology I found this dvd very entertaining, it reminded me of the movies I grew up with and my children even enjoyed the characters. I found it amuseing how the directertors took greek mythology and made a very interesting movie with the characters. I would suggest this to any parent who wants to introduce their children to some of greeks myth. Have fun watching because I sure did. Submitted by cindywill2343 (Edmonton. MEDUSA NEVER BETTERED! I saw this movie when I was 11 years old at the cinema and was particularly awed by the scary 'Medusa'(my nephew hid behind the seat!). I had been a big fan of Ray Harryhausen and his stop-motion monsters from even way back before then having seen all of his other mythological classics such as THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD, JASON & THE ARGONAUTS and THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD on tv and loving every minute of them. This was no different, a Greek mythology classic being given the Harryhausen works with more 'creatures' to enjoy.
Of the creatures, the demonic loooking CALIBOS, THE SCORPIONS, DIOSKILOS (meaning 'two-headed dog' in Greek), CHARON (the 'Grim Reaper' at the River Styx of the underworld), the 3 CANNIBAL WITCHES, and particularly MEDUSA are convincingly scary. THE KRAKEN has never scared me (he just looks like a dumb-arse to me, even the 'vulture' is more frightening than him!).
As for the 'good' creatures, PEGASUS is 'cool' but I can't say the same for BOBO, the flying 'mechanical' owl. I remember absolutely hating the fact that he was 'mechanical' and still to this day believe they should have used a real owl instead (he could have always returned back to Athena after the adventure was finished).
Of the actors, LAURENCE OLIVIER is excellent (as expected) in the part of Zeus, and he is joined on par by MAGGIE SMITH in the role of Thetis. The rest of the 'gods/godesses' share little screen time. Ursula Andress as 'Aphodite' has one line! and she is nowhere near as good-looking as Athena! On top of that, Poseidon looks dopey!).
Of the 'mortals' HARRY HAMLIN could have been more 'dynamic' in my opinion, although that's not to say that he doesn't play the part of 'Perseus' well, he does, but seems to let everything just happen instead of make it happen (KERWIN MATTHEWS, TODD ARMSTRONG, and JOHN PHILLIP LAW seemed more interested in their role of 'hero' in previous similar outings).
Of the others, BURGESS MEREDITH (an actor I have always liked from things such as "BATMAN" - he was the best 'Penguin' ever and always will be, - and "ROCKY" as Stallone's manager 'Micky'), is great as per usual.
The film was released in 1981 and is to my knowledge Harryhausen's last big-screen 'mythological' epic (he should have done 'Theseus' next in my opinion...and then...and then....).
The film is well directed by Desmond Davis and features a good score by Laurence Rosenthal. It runs 118 mins and was produced by Harryhausen's long time buddy and movie making associate Charles H. Schneer("VALLEY OF GWANGI" etc.)
They don't make them like this anymore due to the advancement in Computer graphics and so on, but for their day, these films were there to be enjoyed for what they are - great fun!
This dvd release is absolutely great. A crystal clear picture with good sound and a few extras thrown in for good measure. I hate the dvd box cover it came in though!
For the price of about $10 you could buy much worse. Go for it! Highly recommended! Submitted by Tmerakli (England, U.K.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Always a fantasy feast Ray Harryhausen is king of special effects in the predigital age. His imagination and prowess in his craft are awe-inspiring. This has always been one of my personal favorites. Great family fare! Submitted by pathunt (Jasper, GA 30143) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$8.99 Mudvayne: Chad Gray (vocals); Greg Tribbett (guitar); Ryan Martinie (bass guitar); Matt McDonough (drums). It's been three years for Mudvayne, three years when metal started to reject its "rap" and "nu" prefixes. At first, Lost and Found reflects that realignment. Vocalist Chad Gray and his mates have nixed the nicknames and makeup for their third Epic full-length, and they try to focus on songs instead of heavy music shtick. However, they equate getting real with the melodramatic plead that interrupts the razor-sharp main part of "Choices," and Gray can't overcome lines like "IMN"'s "No one/No one could ever understand/This life." The song is about suicide, which is very serious. But yelling "F*ck this sh*t!" over thudding rhythms just isn't very powerful anymore. They nail ...
