While there had been McCartney-esque pop elements in Supertramp's accessible brand of art-rock from the beginning, EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS represents a definitive shift from proggier tendencies towards a more commercial approach. Coming as it did before the band's major commercial breakthrough, BREAKFAST IN AMERICA, it foreshadows that album's straightforward pop-rock approach, while still retaining a touch of the early artiness.
While "Fool's Overture" has a bit of the weightiness one ordinarily associates with 1970s prog, the fragile, contemplative title track and "From Now On" betray a fondness for the softer side of '60s Britpop. "Give a Little Bit," which would become one of Supertramp's signature songs, is a sunny, acoustic-guitar-driven tune that would sound at home alongside almost any '70s Los Angeles folk-rock act. The band's big crossover was just around the corner, but all the earmarks of their breakout can be heard here.

Supertramp at Their Finest Rodger Hodgson and the boys' best album in my opinion. From well know "Give A Little Bit" to the classical "Foll's Overature", every cut is a great collection of sparkling vocals and inovative music. Drobbins in Albaquirky Yeah I see what you mean about the remastering job. I don't have a remastered copy of "Even in the Quietest Moments" but I do have the original AAD version. It actually does sound pretty good. I did however just get a remastered copy of "Famous Last Words" and likewise, it sounds just awful! The only ones I've found who do just a subperb job of remastering is Rhino! I don't think I'll be so quick to replace my AAD cd's with just any remastered copy in the future. Amazing Music, bad remastering This is one of my all-time favorite albums. The music is great BUT this new remaster by A&M is pretty horrible. Get the original CD (A&M Master Series, the CD that this new "remastered" CD replaced in the A&M catalog) rather than this one. You will not regret it. This new one just doesn't sound like the vinyl at all, but the earlier version is really excellent and sounds like a direct transfer from the master tapes. As for this version, I can't listen to it. They must have EQ'd it for $50 Circuit City speakers or "home theater in a box" setups. :/ Very tinny, very noisy. Submitted by drobbins (Albuquerque, NM, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Nestled between the accomplished Crime of the Century album and 1977's Even in the Quietest Moments, Crisis? What Crisis? may not have given the band any chart success, but it did help them capture a fan base that had no concern for Supertramp's commercial sound. With Rick Davies showing off his talent on the keyboards, and Roger Hodgson's vocals soaring on almost every track, they managed to win back their earlier progressive audience while gaining new fans at the same time. Crisis received extensive air play on FM stations, especially in Britain, and the album made it into the Top 20 there and fell just outside the Top ...
| | Supertramp ...Famous Last Words... CD (1982) Remastered
Even In The Quietest Moments
$6.49 ...Famous Last Words... was the last album that Roger Hodgson made with Supertramp before seeking a solo career, and he made sure that radio would take kindly to his last hurrah with the band. Sporting an airy and overly bright pop sheen, ...Famous Last Words... put two singles on the charts, with the poignant "My Kind of Lady" peaking at number 31 and the effervescent smile of "It's Raining Again" going to number 11. The album itself went Top Ten both in the U.S. and in the U.K., eventually going gold in America. The songs are purposely tailored for Top 40 radio, delicately ...
| | Supertramp Brother Where You Bound CD (1985) Remastered
Even In The Quietest Moments
$6.49 When vocalist-guitarist Roger Hodgson left Supertramp after 1982's ...famous last words..., few could have guessed that the band would continue and solidify its pop-oriented songcraft, let alone re-embrace its progressive-rock roots on 1985's underrated Brother Where You Bound. With vocalist-keyboardist Rick Davies firmly in control -- he wrote all the music and lyrics -- the album examined tensions at the tail end of the Cold War. In a thematic sense, Brother Where You Bound is dated and hasn't aged very well -- Davies' politically oriented lyrics are heavy-handed -- but the music is a pleasure. The crystalline sound of the album, particularly Davies' piano, is breathtaking; kudos to co-producers David Kershenbaum and Supertramp and engineer Norman Hall. The hit single "Cannonball" is a jazz-rock delight, ...
