A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. And most importantly, unreconstructed Southern rockers of the boogie-and-beer variety will appreciate the fact that this is an unapologetic, non-ironic valentine to the sound of not only Skynyrd, but the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band, and the modern-day jam bands that are their musical descendents. Funny and surprisingly sad, passionate but with obvious good humor, SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA must be experienced to be understood.

The "...Truckers" remember and pay tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd in this Southern rock opus. Some of the better tracks include "Guitar Man Upstairs" thru the eyes of an old man and "Shut Up and Get on the Plane" and "Greenville to Baton Rouge" and the down tempo "Woman without Whiskey". All in all, a good album and a good buy. The "...Truckers" are in the same category as the Outlaws, Georgia Sattelites and .38 Special. Good ol' Sothern white boy rock 'n' Roll - 3 chords and a cloud of dust.

Patterson Hood and DBT tell the story of the in and outs of growing up in the South. Fast Cars, Booze, Drugs, and Death on the Highway. Rednecks pay the ultimate price getting thier kicks after too many brews or bowls on some twisting dark highway with Skynard cranking in the radio, leaving only some bizzare shrine to remind us of the dangers of our youthful past

Intrigued by the title and a reference in one song to Blue Oyster Cult, I bought this. I like it better with each listen. It's Southern rock as you've probably never heard, a story about growing up in the south and the musical and political influences. Very interesting, great lyrics and music "throw another log on the fire, George Wallace is comin' to Hell". Ya gotta love it! Expect big things from these guys!

This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
