| | Essential Bob Dylan CD Bob Dylan Discography of CDs
Australian edition includes six different tracks from the U.S. version.
This two-disc 2000 release looks back on Bob Dylan's 38 years of recording and pulls out most of the signature tunes from the songwriting giant's prolific career. For an artist of such stature, it's no easy task to assemble an "essential" compilation in just 30 cuts, but it's hard to argue with the choices made here. Most of the high points in the Minnesotan troubadour's catalog are touched on, and the chronological sequencing provides a kind of tour through Dylan's various phases.
We're taken through the pioneering protest-folk period ("Blowin' in the Wind," "The Times They are A-Changin'"), the Rimbaud-inspired songpoet mode ("It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," "Mr. Tambourine Man"), the amphetamine-fueled rocker phase ("Like A Rolling Stone"), and all the rest of Dylan's many twists and turns. From the poignant introspection of "Shelter From the Storm" to the born-again R&B of "You Gotta Serve Somebody" and the searing narrative of "Hurricane," we get the broad view of an awe-inspiring body of work. Diehards will doubtlessly complain about various disincluded tracks, but on the evidence presented, it's easy to see why the genius tag is so often applied to this artist.
International pressing of this digitally remastered career-spanning two CD compilation featuring six additional tracks: 'Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window', 'I Want You', 'Changing Of The Guard', 'Blind Willie McTell', 'Tight Connection To My Heart' and 'Dignity' (Original Version). Every ebb and flow in popular music over the past 40 years can be heard here! 36 tracks total including 'Blowin' In The Wind', 'Like A Rolling Stone', 'All Along The Watchtower', 'Maggie's Farm', 'Lay Lady Lay', 'Jokerman' and many more. Essential Bob Dylan songs
$11.49 In the Beginning...Brad grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, in a literary and musical family. One grandmother was a writer and poet. The other grandmother was, and remains, a fantastic piano player. Their genes fused inside Brad, and a songwriter was born. He writes, "It’s cool, because for me, the lyrics I write are equally as important as the music I write, and I am proud of both efforts when I come up with a unique song."The "Early Years" in Music...Brad grew up taking piano lessons, and playing trumpet in the school band. In college, he got hooked on the jangly guitar sounds of R.E.M. and bought his first electric guitar. Instead of going to class, he taught himself to play the entire R.E.M. catalog. He began writing a few of his own songs, but as is to be expected, they weren’t very good. He recalls, "I kept trying to write better songs, and purposefully threw out songs that sounded either like other people’s music, or had a typical three chord progression".Following A Girl...He followed a girl to Miami, Florida, where he found himself immersed in the Latin vibe of that great town. He states, "While I’d be stopped at a stoplight, my car would be blasting the Beatles, or Led Zeppelin, while cars next to me blasted Salsa or Merengue music". The mash-up of sounds and rythyms must have begun to plant an idea in his brain.Pretty soon, he had the good fortune to hook up with drummer Oscar Salas, and his son, Marcel Salas, a bass player. Marcel is a prodigy/phenom on bass, and Oscar is a world-class drummer, who played on several of David Byrne’s albums and world tours. Oscar and Marcel are Cuban-American, and ...
