Although they only recorded one full-length record and a smattering of singles, Tuff Darts were a vital part of a thriving New York City community that featured Blondie, the Ramones, Talking Heads and Television as its elder statesmen. So it's with a bit of a surprise that more acknowledgement of the group's importance has been underwhelming. Fusing a little bit of new wave, power pop sensibilities and a rockabilly snarl, the group works its way through 13 storming numbers, taking very few pauses in between for regrouping. The songs are ferocious, and while not as comical as the Ramones, share equal footing with that band's brutal intensity. Above all, though, there's no denying that the band's output has held up over the years, and in some cases best many contemporary punk bands' albums today. ~ Rob Theakston
Back in 1978 when The Ramones and The Sex Pistols were all the rage, there was another punk rock group that dented the charts. Tuff Darts! This cult favorite is making its worldwide CD debut. Headed up by lead guitarist Jeff Salen, this group made only one album, featuring hard driving punk/pop songs. Fans have been screamin' for this one! Wounded Bird Records. 2002.
Recorded at The Power Station, New York, New York.
Tuff Darts: Tommy Frenzy (vocals); Jeff Salen, Bobby Butani (guitar); John DeSalvo (bass); John Morelli (drums).
Producers: Tony Bongiovi, Lance Quinn, Bob Clearmountain.
Tuff Darts! Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Lot's of great rock tunes on this CD. Bought this record in '79 and love it, have been waiting for it to be available on CD.
To me this is among the best Punk/New Wave band from that period.

ONE OF THE BEST PUNK RECORDS EVER I first purchased this in LP format around 1979-1980 from a cut out bin. I think it got more play than any other record I had at the time. This is without doubt, one of the best punk records ever made. Hell, it's one of the best records ever made period. Your love is like nuclear waste is timeless. I'll Have to Rethink This I got this album when it came out and was unimpressed. Compared with their contemproraries -- Ramones, Dead Boys, Heartbreakers -- they seemed pretty conventional; more like the less-memorable Dictators. I also saw them headlining for the Talking Heads (imagine that). Given these rave reviews here, though, I'll have to give this another listen. Toxic Tunes from a More Toxic Time This self titled album from New York's first burst of punk is probably the crowning compact disc to the collection of many a serious collector. Tuff Darts were not as out there as such slum bretheren as the Ramones, but their spectacular song "Your Love is Like a Nuclear Waste," is worth any amount of money alone. I've been waiting for this old 1978, germ filled gem, to make to CD for far too long. It's about friggin' time! Submitted by jstich (Houston, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Tuff Darts! album
$9.09 With TOO TOUGH the Ramones take on the '80s, and the '80s go down with a second round TKO. After a few fallow years and some substandard albums (by the band's standards anyway), they came rushing back into the ring with a fresh sense of purpose. The addition of new drummer Ritchie Ramone and ...
| | Yes Tales From Topographic Oceans CDs (1974) Bonus Tracks
Tuff Darts! CD music
$11.89 For prog rock's detractors, Yes's TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS is the genre's nadir. For admirers it is an artistic pinnacle. Whichever camp you're in, it is hard to deny the sheer chutzpah necessary to undertake this sprawling epic. Though broken up into four sections, TALES greeted 1973 listeners ...
| | Harold Mabern Few Miles From Memphis CD (1968)
Tuff Darts! music CDs
$9.89 On A Few Miles from Memphis, recorded by pianist Harold Mabern in 1968, he's joined by tenors George Coleman and Buddy Terry, bassist Bill Lee, and drummer Walter Perkins for a bluesy, rhythm-filled set featuring familiar fare like "A Treat for Bea" and fun originals like "Walkin' Back." There's also the odd inclusion of "There's a Kind of Hush," a pop song that comes out sounding like an old standard ...
| | Ike & Tina Turner Nutbush City Limits/Feel Good CD (2006) Bonus Tracks
Tuff Darts! songs
$17.75 Raven's 2006 two-fer Nutbush City Limits/Feel Good combines two of Ike & Tina Turner's last albums together and adds five bonus tracks, three of which were taken from other Ike & Tina albums from the early '70s, one taken from a Tina solo record, and one disco mix of "Nutbush City Limits." The album that arrives first on this two-fer was actually the last of these two to be released: Nutbush City Limits appeared in 1973, a year after Feel Good, but its title track is one of ...

Tuff Darts! album
$10.09 Many of the legends of acoustic guitar in the 20th century have already passed on -- John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Ali Farka Toure. Due partially to his spare recording career, Peter Walker's own reputation has not always been as well known as those of said giants, but his own influence has been considerable. A Raga for ...

| | Randy Newman Good Old Boys CD (1974)
Tuff Darts! songs
$11.39 Whereas 1972's SAIL AWAY played like a superbly crafted collection of short stories, 1974 's GOOD OLD BOYS was Newman's first novel. The literary analogies are not misplaced--Newman brings a writer's eye to character development, detail, setting, and scenario on GOOD OLD BOYS, a concept album about life in the Deep South. The opening track, "Rednecks," is a mercilessly scathing swipe at Southern racism, with a rollicking, sing-along chorus that only sinks the song's knife in deeper. And "A Wedding in Cherokee County" is a lovely ballad about a highly suspect backwoods marriage.
But for every attack on provincialism, Newman offers a tender portrait of a Southern character ...
