Die-hard Butthole Surfers fans are often compelled to own every rare recording that they can dig up, and this disc is one that they will be foaming at the mouth over. Humpty Dumpty L.S.D. is an odd assortment of tracks that span the career of these psychedelic nightmare-weavers, from their early days of cockroaches and megaphones to their more refined and radio-friendly period. A number of songs were initially released on a variety of hard-to-find compilations, such as "Eindhoven Chicken Mask," which appeared on Touch & Go's God's Favorite Dog compilation, as well as the Butthole Surfers/Daniel Johnston collaboration "All Day," originally located on A Texas Trip. A couple tracks are actually early versions of songs that were recorded at a later date, such as "Day of the Dying Alive," which eventually became "Jimi" from the album Hairway to Steven. Other songs, like "Hetero Skeleton" and "Perry Intro," originated from the recording sessions for the album Rembrandt Pussyhorse. While it is an interesting and enjoyable retrospective, it is also evident why some of the material was never released until now. It's definitely a disc that can be appreciated more by the fanatically inclined rather than the masses looking for a follow-up to their hit, "Pepper," due to the raw and unpolished nature of some of the tracks. Also, a few of the songs are clearly the bare-boned structures of works in progress or ideas that never fully panned out, which tend to come off a bit long-winded at moments. Regardless, it is an interesting disc that follows the turbulent history of one of the world's most notoriously bizarre and hypnotically frightening bands. ~ John Griffin

Q (8/02, p.138) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...These unreleased tracks and rarities centre on the mid-to-late'80s when the band were at their perverse best..." Mojo (Publisher) (8/02, p.95) - "...Gives some idea of the brain-fried havoc these Texans could wreak in their 'arsequake' heyday..." Essential rarities from the Butthole's heyday Great collection of compilation tracks and outtakes from the Buttholes before they went disco. If you jumped on the Butt's bandwagon after Pepper, you will hate this stuff. If you've ever dropped acid and went to a funeral home for kicks, these post punk Texas ditties will melt your head. Essential stuff from the days of strobes, grainy mutilated genitalia films and on-stage fornication. Hope they open the vaults and release some more of these wonderful turds... A Must Have A must have for Butthole Surfer fans, chock full of rarities and outakes from '82
thru '94. Worth every penny if only for the legendary and hard to find Daniel Johnston chemically fueled 1987 track "All Day," originally only available on "A TexasTrip." Best played very loud.

The Butthole Brother are Back! This is some old stuff from the Surfer's still vital "Brown Period," back before John Paul Jones tamed their sound down to slick laxative speed. Excellant stuff here. Anybody who loves the Buttholes of legendary old must have this superb cd. Submitted by jstich (Houston, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Humpty Dumpty LSD music CDs
$13.19 Federico Aubele's second album, Panamericana, features many of the same qualities that earned acclaim for his debut, Gran Hotel Buenos Aires (2004), and garnered a strong word-of-mouth following for his music. The porteño again sets his lovely Spanish-language songs against a hypnotic backdrop of Spanish guitar, dub basslines, hip-hop beats, Latin percussion, and ambient production motifs informed by Thievery Corporation, one of whose members, Eric Hilton, is credited with the album's production. As on Gran Hotel Buenos Aires, many of the songs are sung by females; in the case of this album, the dreamy voice of Natalia Clavier, a fellow Argentine from Buenos Aires, graces ten of the 13 songs, either as lead ("La Esquina," "Maria José," "La Orilla," "Corazón," "Lluvia") or harmony vocalist ("En Cada Lugar," "Tan Difícil," "En el Desierto," "Su Melodía," "La Mar"). In addition to playing guitar, along with most of the other instruments heard throughout the album, Aubele sings lead on about half of the songs ("En Cada Lugar," "Tan Difícil," "Pena," "En el Desierto," "Su ...
