| | Garlic Boys Love CD Garlic Boys Discography of CDs
Hands down, this is the most diverse collection of 12 songs ever to be included in a CD package. While some of their best songs, like "Variety Kanshikan" and (most notably) "Too Late True Love," are straight pop-punk (the latter featuring some backing cellos), the rest are reminiscent of Faith No More's Angel Dust with more speed, less metal, and lots of unclassified but original silliness. This includes all of the start-stop motions and tempo changes that go from an adult contemporary pace to a blood-curdling grind. But just as it was on the album Poem, the band's humor -- characterized by not taking themselves too seriously -- is present throughout Love (which brings up the question of whether or not their poppiest material is serious or self-parody). Catchy regardless, but often hard to follow. ~ Mike DaRonco Love Review

Purchase Love CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Love album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, a version of Jimmie Rodgers' "Miss the Mississippi and You," is full of comfortable grace and sentiment, and Cash keeps that fine emotional tone throughout this ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
Love CD music
$13.05 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; and Josh Homme, who set up a mini-empire based entirely on jam sessions. If Them Crooked Vultures brings to mind Homme's projects more than Grohl's or Jones', it's largely due to his role as lead vocalist and how guitar can push a rhythm section as powerful as this to the side, dominating with its grinding riffs and solos. Homme's predilection for precision does reign supreme -- when the group stretches out, even wallowing in the murk on "Interlude with Ludes," ...
| | Avett Brothers I And Love And You CD (2009)
Love music CDs
$11.25 North Carolina sibling duo the Avett Brothers return in 2009, fresh off a few years of building a cult following for its melodic and rootsy alt-bluegrass sound, with the subdued I AND LOVE AND YOU. The opening single and title track basks in piano-pop splendor in an odd mix of Beach Boys, Byrds, and the Band.
The Avett Brothers continue charting the same musical course as EMOTIONALISM and MIGNONETTE on major-label debut I AND LOVE AND YOU, despite the presence of hands-on producer Rick Ruben. The country-folk duo continue to add elements of pop and hillbilly rock to a country/bluegrass foundation on the 2009 LP, a record with a newfound emphasis on piano and nuanced arrangements. Working with a larger budget allows the group to add small flourishes -- a cello line here, a keyboard crescendo there -- but the resulting music is rarely grand, focusing on textures rather than sheer volume. Scott and Seth Avett share vocals throughout the album, delivering their lyrics in a speak-sing cadence that sounds both tuneful and conversational. Given the opportunities presented here -- the ability ...
| | Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!: In Concert CDs (1970) With Book; With DVD; Anniversary Edition; Limited Edition
Love songs
$50.09 Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York on November 27-28, 1969.
Returning to the American concert scene after a three-year layoff, the Rolling Stones recorded GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! during a triumphant two-date stand at Madison Square Garden in late November 1969 that found B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner opening for them. Having amassed an impressive recorded output during their three years away from touring, the Stones peppered their sets with hits, including "Honky Tonk Women," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Street Fighting Man." Tipping their collective hats to Chuck Berry, the band also included covers of "Carol" and "Little Queenie" alongside more blues-influenced numbers such as "Stray Cat Blues" and "Love In Vain."
Having been a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, new guitarist Mick Taylor parlayed his experience into some ...

Love album
$13.85 The first live CD from this long-running band! Having created a rabid fanbase over years of heavy touring, The Recipe has become one of the signature groups of the intrepid roots music scene. Founded in "porch music", this band's sound combines stellar songwriting and lyrics with a communal spirit that keeps the music unique and celebratory. -----------In the "Family and Friends" spirit of The Grateful Dead, Delaney and Bonnie and Willie Nelson comes one of the most original and refreshing bands on the roots-rock / jamband scene today. Hailing from the musically rich Mid-Atlantic region, THE RECIPE sprung onto the scene in 1995 with their debut CD, "LOVE MARBLE HOE DOWN", introducing listeners to a fresh mix of insightful songwriting and superb musicianship. What came next was a non-stop touring schedule resulting in a fan base that is the envy of bands everywhere. The band's high-energy live shows have fortified their stature considerably on the national club and festival circuit. With the 1998 release of "NIGHT OF THE PORCH PEOPLE" and "GEODE" in 2000, the band remained consistent in its devotion to songwriting and in it's work ethic, playing some 200 dates per year. From the very beginning, THE RECIPE'S high-energy live shows and good-time vibe have motivated their fans (affectionately referred to as "porch people") to get up and dance, making the shows part concert and part family reunion. It is in this spirit that the band stages their annual RECIPE FAMILY COOKOUT in West Virginia. ...

Love music CDs
$25.69 From the Aquarius records(San Francisco) website:We get A LOT of records coming through here, as you might imagine, many of them great -- but very few that I (Allan) have listened to as many times upon acquisition as this one. I just can't stop spinning it. It's one of those special cases, the new purchase that actually achieves "heavy rotation" in my home. The Elope trio hail from Sweden and are on the same label, Gravitation, that's been bringing us those lovely Bjorn Olsson albums. They're a current, contemporary band but you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise 'cause this record sure sounds like it was recorded no later than 1973, if it was yesterday. They've captured a long-ago, classic rock, heavily Beatles-influenced vibe, and written songs with pop brilliance to match. They're retro but not self-consciously, calculatedly so. I mean, the album cover suggests indie rock along the lines of Death Cab For Cutie or Modest Mouse or something like that, way more than it does what the band actually sounds like. Which is the Beatles, Neil Young (they cover his "Bad Fog Of Loneliness"), a little country-Stones, a little Pink Floyd, maybe the Pretty Things circa their Parachute LP, and some Wings (or more Beatles). More obscurely, I'd say a lot of this has the same magical effect on me as do the albums by early '70s Peruvian Paul McCartney worshippers We All Together. Relaxed, super melodic, stick in your head songwriting. Another kinda obscure comparison would be to the quieter, acoustic side of heavy British '70s rockers Budgie (!) who also were devoted Paul McCartney fans I'm sure. And, additionally, this has a restrained-but-effective hard/psych rock side to it that also could relate to the riffing of Budgie (a lot of critics apparently say Cream, but I don't hear that as much). Like the guy from Budgie doing their more sensitive songs, the intimate, gentle vocals here have an air of wistful melancholy I always find hard to resist. Pretty, exquisitely crafted songs that are so very seventies but also evoke the current folky indie-pop of, say, Belle & Sebastian. I wasn't entirely surprised to find out that Elope apparently includes some member(s) ...

$12.69 Michael Haynes doesn't just sing his songs, he lives them, and those within earshot seldom walk away unchanged...There is an urgency in his voice where passion is so mixed with pain that the two cannot live together....It is the muse in Michael that sets them free.
