Brahms: String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2, Op. 51
$19.30 Andrea Bocelli's 2009 My Christmas album finds the Italian tenor performing various classic holiday-themed songs that touch on a mix of classical, opera, and pop. Included are such well-known holiday songs as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "O Tannenbaum," and "Silent Night." The versatile Bocelli also delves into such iconic Christmas hits as "Blue Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" (featuring a duet with Natalie Cole). Of course, the opera and classic songs are Bocelli's bread and butter, and here listeners get such lavishly produced cuts as "Adeste Fidelis," "Cantique del Noel," and "Caro Gesu Bambino." My Christmas is not only a warm and inviting holiday album, but also a superb classical crossover entry worthy of Bocelli's discography. ~ Matt Collar

Brahms: String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2, Op. 51
$10.69 Andrea Bocelli, the tenor of enormous popularity, is no stranger to the world of traditional opera having delved into it on previous albums, but with VERDI he raises the stakes. He plunges into the deep end of the "serious" music pool with a selection of arias that span the breadth of the great composer's career, music that is breathtaking in its beauty but vocally demanding and difficult. Is Bocelli up to the challenge? Purists and traditionalists may have their objections, but there's no denying the artist's charisma and ability to engage audiences.
Bocelli is a singer with an easy confidence and keen musical instincts who well understands where his talents lie, and his interpretations of arias from masterworks such as 'Il trovatore,' 'Rigoletto,' and 'La traviata' showcase his natural abilities, projecting sincerity and a deep respect for the music. He gives heartfelt accounts of "Ah si, ben mio," "Ma se m'e forza perderti," and "La vita e inferno all'infelice," committing himself to the emotions evoked by the music and delivering the essence of the work. The album is buoyed by his genuine enthusiasm, and his warm, romantic tone serves him well throughout. Bocelli may not gain many converts with VERDI, but will surely satisfy his legion of admirers.
Repackaged in Australia to celebrate his first Aussie tour & his performance at the Olympic torch ceremony. Packaged as an individual gold CD in a gold slipcase with Andrea's signature. Supported by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Brahms: String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2, Op. 51
$7.55 Few, if any, would dispute the description of Kathleen Ferrier as the greatest lyric contralto England has ever produced. To update the words of her friend and singing colleague, soprano Isobel Baillie, 'Fifty years after her death on 8 October 1953, the very inflection in the mention of her name is invariably tinged with a deep and genuine affection and more than a hint of sadness'. She began to make a name for herself in 1942 when she moved down to London from Carlisle. Not only did she continue her busy schedule of wartime recital tours for CEMA (Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts), but also to broaden her repertoire to include Handel's Messiah, the Bach Passions and B minor Mass, Elgar's oratorios.
