The leader is the most prominent soloist throughout the concert, though Brookmeyer is prominent with Mulligan in the captivating chart of "Body and Soul." Other highlights include Johnny Mandel's moody "Barbara's Theme" (written for the film I Want to Live and recorded by Mulligan for its soundtrack), and Sims' agile solo in "Apple Core," along with and an unusual 21-minute extended treatment of Mulligan's blues "Spring Is Sprung," with the composer at the piano.
