Throughout the 1950s and '60s, Ol' Blue Eyes not only left his indelible stylistic mark on America's contemporary songbook but also altered popular conceptions of what singers and performers could and should be. Even when listening to another performer's interpretation of a standard, it is hard not to recall Sinatra's rich, floating tenor. Chances are excellent that he recorded a definitive version of the song at some point. By focusing on some of the Chairman's formative recordings, Beginnings lives up to its title. Superb versions of "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Embraceable You," and "Day by Day" exhibit the fluid sense of style and phrasing that would make Sinatra an icon. Though his swinging showman persona occasionally overshadows his vocal talents, the impact of his phrasing and the grace of his smooth tenor are enough to remind you that Sinatra was, first and foremost, a great singer.

A thrashy, glammy hot mess featuring former Blondie backup singers (and Manic Panic hair dye founders) Tish and Snooky, Sic Fucks revel in the detritus of pop junk. Songs like "Fags on Acid" and "Teenage Abortion" rumble out in front of the adoring hometown audience on this disc. For everyone who'll never get a chance to experience the squalor that was CBGB, this will have to do. The Sic F*cks were one the earliest NYC punk/glam bands, formed by Russell Wolinsky with famous NYC scenesters/sisters Tish and Snooky after their stint as backup singers in Blondie. Herky jerky rhythms and witty lyrics combined with an only-possible-in-NYC glam/trash style made for an incredible band. This live set features the band running through their best songs for a loving audience at the world famous CBGBs.
