Legendary jazz drummer Gene Krupa is featured in a variety of traditional Dixieland jazz settings, performing with musicians including New Orleans cornetist Wingy Manone and St. Louis singer (and comb player) Red Mackenzie, both of whom were practitioners of the "red-hot" Chicago style of jazz who had moved from that city to New York at the beginning of the 1930s. This collection will mostly appeal to Dixieland enthusiasts, rather than fans of Krupa's more incendiary recordings--the drummer mostly plays tasteful brushes throughout, though he can be heard to good effect on woodblocks on "Honeysuckle Rose."
