20 Greatest Hits Of 1962 CD music
$9.89 This is very much a chamber jazz set. Mundell Lowe plays "Our Waltz" as an unaccompanied guitar solo and his trio with bassist Trigger Alpert and drummer Ed Shaughnessy is joined by either Al Klink or Phil Bodner on various woodwinds during seven of the 11 other selections. The ...
| | U2 No Line On The Horizon CD (2009)
20 Greatest Hits Of 1962 music CDs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as "Get on Your Boots," which sounds like "Vertigo" hijacked by T. Rex, and "Stand Up Comedy," a wiry number that lets the Edge cut loose with barbed guitar lines. Some of most striking songs on HORIZON are ...

| | Andy Williams Christmas Album CD (1963) Remastered
20 Greatest Hits Of 1962 CD music
$6.09 Popular songs are often associated with the vocalists that made them famous but few artists actually have the distinction of having a "theme" song along the lines of Bob Hope with "Thanks for the Memories." Even fewer can claim to have two theme songs attached to them and Andy Williams is one of those fortunate stars. After "Moon River" became forever linked to Williams, he recorded a holiday song for his first Christmas album that gave him a yuletide hit and theme song. "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" was the right song at the right time for Williams when he began to perform it on his highly successful NBC Christmas specials that featured the whole Williams clan. Both the song and the television specials were so memorable, it wasn't long before Williams was crowned "Mr. Christmas." Of course having a full album of wonderful holiday songs perfectly performed doesn't hurt either and the Andy Williams Christmas Album was an instant hit when released in 1963 and has since become a traditional classic. Along with "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," Williams cheerfully celebrates with the spirited medley "Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season" and is at his playful best on the irresistibly raucous "Kay Thompson's Jingle Bells." He also wraps his voice around chestnuts like ...
| | Dr John On A Mardi Gras Day CD (1990)
20 Greatest Hits Of 1962 music CDs
$13.15 This is a live recording from 1983, capturing Dr. John at London's Marquee with Chris Barber and his 11-piece band. The presence of Barber and his big band gives the music a greater sense of swing, which makes On a Mardi Gras Day -- which basically consists of such familiar items as "Iko Iko," "Right Place, Wrong Time," "Li'l Liza Jane," "Stack-A-Lee," and "Such a Night" -- something special in Mac Rebennack's catalog. It gives longtime fans the opportunity to hear him stretch out, and play with the tempo and flash of his jazz chops, which are considerable. Not the definitive or most representative Dr. John live set, but a rewarding one nonetheless. ~ Thom Owens
