| | Rosemary's Billygoat Evilution CD Rosemary's Billygoat Discography of CDs
While the group is sure to appeal to horror film fanatics, its mauling of Pat Benatar's "Hell Is for Children" is downright laughable, bordering on criminal. As such, Rosemary's Billygoat is entertaining to a fault and not for the faint of heart. ~ John D. Luerssen
Like an amalgam of Gwar, Megadeth, and Corrosion of Conformity, L.A.'s Rosemary's Billygoat uses absurd, Medieval Times-like imagery but rocks with the will of the aforementioned on Evilution. Guitarist Neal Gargantua is easily the group's biggest asset, as he slays many modern day axe-wielders with inviting riffs and wicked soloing, but vocalist Mike Odd's Satanic, shout-styled vocals are grating, specifically on "Control Issues" and "Electrocution." The latter, told from the electric chair-bound character's point of view, takes the set to all new heights of gore.
Rosemary's Billygoat: Mike Odd (vocals); Neal Gargantua (guitar, background vocals); Pat Trick (bass, background vocals); Paul Bearer (drums).

Evilution
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus ...

Evilution
$6.49 Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack.
"Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. "She Don't Know Me" is a catchy mid-tempo rocker. "Shot Through the Heart" turns the hard-rocking pulse up a few notches, with Richie Sambora letting loose on the kind of solo that would be copied by a plethora of L.A. bands. David Bryan's keyboards, an integral part of the group's sound, work nicely on the melodic rocker "Breakout." At a time when synthesizers dominated the pop landscape, Bon Jovi used them to gloss a heavy-rock foundation. "Come Back" shows the enormity of the charisma and emotion that Jon poured into his singing. BON JOVI is a great debut by a band in its underground, formative stage; a street album from a band hungry to make it.

| | Astra Weirding CD (2009)
Evilution
$10.69 During the late '90s, it seemed like prog rock had finally achieved extinction. But fast forward ten years later and the genre was thriving once more - as evidenced by the arrival of such groups as Astra and their 2009 full-length debut, THE WEIRDING (which includes some very Roger Dean-inspired cover artwork). Hailing from an ...
| | Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow CD (1975) Remastered
Evilution
$6.55 After British maestro guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1974, he recruited Purple Records signees Elf as his backing band. And although Rainbow's 1975 debut was only a hint of future greatness, the album more than holds its own.
Elf was led by dramatic metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who seemed to connect with Blackmore in quite a chemical fashion. "Man on the Silver Mountain" is prime material, as is the six-minute blues-metal classic "Catch the Rainbow." Dio's shining vocals, shown to great effect here, have been emulated by hard rock vocalists throughout the years. "The Temple of the King" is another highlight, showcasing Blackmore's emotional guitar licks. "Sixteenth ...
