Future Lounge is a set of sonic paisley ambience from the practitioner of the style -- Al Gromer Khan. He is the practitioner because -- like Brian Eno and ambient music -- he coined the term. Many performers have created this type of retro-ambient music. This is a low-volume detached listening experience. Khan is a master sound designer. His atmospheres have psychoactive properties. Deep listeners will feel the serotonin stimuli as Khan pokes and prods the synapses and neurotransmitters. This is a very relaxing sound. It is also quite essential. This disc will appeal to fans of Oöphoi, Klaus Wiese, David Parsons, and Mathias Grassow. ~ Jim Brenholts

Future Lounge album
$14.09 Space music composer Michael Stearns also composes for large-screen IMAX movie documentaries. The Lost World is so massive it could easily fill the theater, even without the movie. The lost world of the title refers to the towering rock pillar and cliffs and the thick tropical rain forest of Mount Roraima in Venezuela. The area was so mysterious and so full of adventure that in 1912 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote an adventure novel, a book that captivated Stearns as a boy. Stearns traveled by jeep, river, and foot to explore the region, returning with spectacular images and sound samples for this Cinemascope movie for the mind. The music is vast, immense, with drums as loud as dinosaur footsteps, organ drones as thick as impenetrable cliffs, and gongs as tall as the mountain's thousand-foot waterfall. Of course, the little band of explorers is overwhelmed and outnumbered ...

| | Ron Hawkins Crackstatic CD (2000) (Import) Canada
Future Lounge songs
$26.29 Without a doubt, Crackstatic is the Rusty Nails' most cohesive effort to date. The production talents of Toronto rock god Ian Blurton lent themselves well to this project -- the magic touch that Blurton had with the Weakerthans' Left and Leaving carried itself over to make the pop/punk songs like the first single ("Bite Down Hard") more concise, and the heart-wrenching balladry of "Rumours and Whispers" all the more haunting. The sonic highlight remains the perfect vocal harmonies between Ron Hawkins and longtime collaborator Lawrence Nichols. Hawkins has grown immensely as a songwriter since leaving the Lowest of the Low in 1994. Although Hawkins' writing styles remain varied, there is not as wide a range of styles on this album as there were on the first release from the Nails -- Greasing the Star Machine -- and this is a good thing. The result is an album that flows nicely and the listener is never put off by being subjected to a punk song following an introspective ballad. The only track that seems out of place is the blatant, ...
